A radiopaque hydrogel-in-liposome (RHL) system was developed for micro-computed tomography (μCT) imaging of tumor tissue and simultaneous delivery of a cytotoxic agent. Iopamidol (IPD) and doxorubicin (DOX) were incorporated as the CT contrast and anti-cancer agents, respectively. The presence of a polyethylene glycol hydrogel core in the liposomes was confirmed via attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and selective solvent extraction.

Formaldehyde (HCHO), a major carbonyl compound in urban air, poses health risks due to its carcinogenic properties. However, the role of FT-PBL exchange in HCHO and the importance of vertical exchange on diurnal variations in HCHO remain unclear. This study investigated the diurnal variability of HCHO in Seoul's planetary boundary layer (PBL) during cold.

The Korean Society of Infectious Diseases has been regularly publishing guidelines for adult immunization since 2007. Following the release of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination recommendations in 2023, significant changes have occurred due to the emergence of new variant strains and the waning immunity from previous vaccinations. This article provides a comprehensive update as of November 2024, incorporating the latest evidence and guidelines.

Negative differential transconductance (NDT) devices have emerged as promising candidates for multivalued logic computing, and particularly for ternary logic systems. To enable computation of any ternary operation, it is essential to have a functionally complete set of ternary logic gates, which remains unrealized with current NDT technologies, posing a critical limitation for higher-level circuit design. Additionally, NDT devices typically rely on heterojunctions, complicating fabrication and impacting reliability due to the introduction of additional materials and interfaces.

Background: In patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), sites of metastatic involvement have been reported to be associated with a difference in survival. However, the frequency and survival according to different sites of metastases in Korean patients with mRCC remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the frequency of metastatic site involvement and the association between sites of metastatic involvement and survival in Korean patients with mRCC.

Background: Comorbidity could influence cancer diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, or survival. Although comorbidity burden in kidney cancer patients is high, limited evidence exists on the longitudinal patterns of individual comorbidity prevalence and its impact on overall survival among kidney cancer patients, particularly in Asian populations.

Methods: We included adults diagnosed with kidney cancer between 2010 and 2021 using the Korean nationwide health insurance database.

Existing evidence regarding the impact of continuity of care (COC) in asthma patients is limited, and its quality is low to moderate. This study aimed to investigate associations between relational COC within primary care and asthma-related hospitalizations in children using a robust methodology. This study is a population-based cohort study that utilized a national claims database in South Korea.

Objective: To analyze the clinical and economic consequences of the progression to castration-resistant status for patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) and metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in South Korea.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using National Health Insurance claims data from 2013 to 2021. Patients defined as newly diagnosed with mHSPC had an index date of first claim for metastatic PC between 2015 and 2016 and no exposure to CRPC medicines during the washout period.

Chronic tympanic membrane (TM) perforation is a tubotympanic disease caused by either traumatic injury or inflammation. A recent study demonstrated significant progress in promoting the regeneration of chronic TM perforations through the application of nanofibers with radially aligned nanostructures and controlled release of growth factors. However, radially aligned nanostructures with stem cell-stimulating factors have never been used.

Objectives: The existing evidence for the impacts of continuity of care (COC) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is low to moderate. This study aimed to investigate the associations between relational COC within primary care and COPD-related hospitalisations using a robust methodology.

Design: Population-based cohort study.

Background: Little is known about the characteristics and long-term clinical outcomes of patients with heart failure with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF) after acute myocardial infarction.

Methods And Results: From a multicenter, consecutive cohort of patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, patients with an initial echocardiogram with left ventricular ejection fraction ≤40% and at least 1 follow-up echocardiogram after 14 days and within 2 years of the initial event were considered for analyses. HFimpEF was defined as an initial left ventricular ejection fraction ≤40% and serial left ventricular ejection fraction >40% with an increase of ≥10% from baseline at follow-up.

Objective: We aimed to examine the effectiveness and safety of a novel torque-controlled catheter for cerebral angiography.

Methods: A total of 417 patients who underwent routine transfemoral cerebral angiography were enrolled in a randomized controlled study to compare the new torque-controlled and control group catheters. Device success was assessed on parameters such as the assessment of the common carotid artery, device rotation force, and success rate with the crossover group after the failed procedure.

The manufacturing industry has been operating within a constantly evolving technological environment, underscoring the importance of maintaining the efficiency and reliability of manufacturing processes. Motor-related failures, especially bearing defects, are common and serious issues in manufacturing processes. Bearings provide accurate and smooth movements and play essential roles in mechanical equipment with shafts.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major concern of morbidity and mortality among cancer survivors. However, few evidence exists on the short- and long-term risk of CVD in kidney cancer (KCa) survivors.

Methods: In this nationwide, large population-based retrospective cohort study, we used the Korean national health insurance and medical checkup survey linkage database (2007-2021), drawn from the entire Korean population.

Front-of-package (FOP) is one of the most direct communication channels connecting manufacturers and consumers, as it displays crucial information such as certification, nutrition, and health. Traditional methods for obtaining information from FOPs often involved manual collection and analysis. To overcome these labor-intensive characteristics, new methods using two artificial intelligence (AI) approaches were applied for information monitoring of FOPs.

Introduction: The most notable challenge facing hemophilia A treatment is the development of inhibitors against factor VIII, resulting in increased clinical and socioeconomic burdens due to the need for expensive bypassing agents (BPAs). Although immune tolerance induction (ITI) is currently the primary approach for inhibiting and reducing the inhibitors, the lengthy duration of ITI necessitates the continued use of BPA to manage bleeding episodes. In this study, we aimed to obtain real-world evidence on the clinical and economic aspects and associated burdens experienced by patients with hemophilia A with inhibitors undergoing ITI in Korea.

The World Health Organization/International Society of Urological Pathology (WHO/ISUP) grading of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is classified from grade 1-4, regardless of subtype. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines (2022) state that if there is an adverse pathological feature, such as grade 3 or higher RCC in stage 1 patients, more rigorous follow-up imaging is recommended. However, the RCC guidelines do not provide specific treatment or follow-up policies by tumor grade.

Importance: Complete revascularization by non-infarct-related artery (IRA) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction is standard practice to improve patient prognosis. However, it is unclear whether a fractional flow reserve (FFR)-guided or angiography-guided treatment strategy for non-IRA PCI would be more cost-effective.

Objective: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of FFR-guided compared with angiography-guided PCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction and multivessel disease.
