A bacterial consortium, named SWO, was enriched from crude oil-contaminated seawater from Phrao Bay in Rayong Province, Thailand, after a large oil spill in 2013. The bacterial consortium degraded a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) mixture consisting of phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, and pyrene (50 mg L each) by approximately 73%, 69%, 52%, and 48%, respectively, within 21 days. This consortium exhibited excellent adaptation to a wide range of environmental conditions.

Aniline and chlorinated anilines (CAs) are classified as priority pollutants; therefore, an effective method for detection and monitoring is required. In this study, a green-fluorescence protein-based bioreporter for the detection of aniline and CAs was constructed in Escherichia coli DH5α, characterized and tested with soil and wastewater. The sensing capability relied on the regulatory control between a two-component regulatory protein, TodS/TodT, and the P( todX ) promoter of Pseudomonas putida T-57 (PpT57), since the gene expression of todS, todT, and todC2 are positively induced with 4-chloroaniline.

The effects of the crystalline structure and surface functional groups of porous inorganic materials on the adsorption of dichloroacetic acid (DCAA) were evaluated by using hexagonal mesoporous silicates (HMS), two surface functional group (3-aminopropyltriethoxy- and 3-mercaptopropyl-) modified HMSs, faujasite Y zeolite and activated alumina as adsorbents, and compared with powdered activated carbon (PAC). Selective adsorption of HAA(5) group was studied by comparing single and multiple-solute solution, including effect of common electrolytes in tap water. Adsorption capacities were significantly affected by the crystalline structure.
