Article Synopsis
  • Sulfidogenic and methanogenic processes in sewer management create issues like organic losses that are often overlooked, as current methods focus mainly on chemical dosing for control.
  • In a laboratory study, the organic silicon quaternary ammonium salt (QSA) was used in sewer reactors, suppressing sulfidogenic activity recovery and maintaining low methanogenic activity levels after treatment.
  • The study found that QSA attached to biofilms through electrostatic attraction, improving control efficiency and altering microbial communities, with preliminary tests showing enhanced biodegradability of effluent, supporting its use in wastewater management.

Background: Catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) commonly occurs in patients who have indwelling urinary catheters while under general anesthesia. And moderate-to-severe CRBD can lead to significant adverse events and negatively impact patient health outcomes. However, current screening studies for patients experiencing moderate-to-severe CRBD after waking from general anesthesia are insufficient.

Background: Early water intake has gained widespread attention considering enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). In the present systematic evaluation and meta-analysis, we assessed the effects of early water intake on the incidence of vomiting and aspiration in adult patients who received general anaesthesia on regaining consciousness during the resuscitation period.

Objective: To systematically analyse the results of randomised controlled trials on early postoperative water intake in patients who underwent different types of surgery under general anaesthesia, both at home and abroad, to further explore the safety and application of early water intake and provide an evidence-based foundation for clinical application.

Sulfur-containing substances in sewers frequently incur unpleasant odors, corrosion-related economic loss, and potential human health concerns. These observations are principally attributed to microbial reactions, particularly the involvement of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in sulfur reduction process. As a multivalent element, sulfur engages in complex bioreactions in both aerobic and anaerobic environments.

Background: Surgery, as one of the main diagnostic and treatment methods, is a routine work in medical settings. Patients undergoing surgery often experience acute procedure anxiety due to uncertainty. There is ample evidence showing that uncertainty is a risk factor for the acute procedure anxiety in surgical patients.
