Review of Replantation Services from a Level One Trauma Center in India.

The aim of this article is to examine the elements that contribute to effective operation of a specialized replantation center and to provide readers with a general idea of the outcome of replantation services in India. A dedicated high-volume center coupled with a sound referral system is the backbone of replantation services in a country. A retrospective study was done on all patients who visited a level 1 trauma center in India from November 1, 2017, to December 31, 2018, for various amputations.

 As the coronavirus disease 2019 virus made its way throughout the world, there was a complete overhaul of our day-to-day personal and professional lives. All aspects of health care were affected including academics. During the pandemic, teaching opportunities for resident training were drastically reduced.

Quality indicators in burn care: An international burn care professionals survey to define them.

Introduction: Quality indicators (QIs) are tools for improving and maintaining the standard of care. Although burn injuries are a major global health threat, requiring standardized management, there is a lack of worldwide accepted quality indicators for burn care. This study aims to identify the best burn care-specific QIs as perceived by worldwide burn practitioners.

A Rare Case of Cleft Palate Associated With Tongue Hamartoma: A Case Report and Systematic Review.

Introduction: Palate development involves a genetic regulation through a complex molecular mechanism that may be disrupted by environmental factors, resulting in impaired fusion and cleft palate formation. An encounter with a case of cleft palate due to dorsal tongue hamartoma prompted us to perform this systematic review.

Objective: To review the clinical profile and management approach for a case with cleft palate and tongue hamartoma.

First Successful Separation of Craniopagus Twins in India-Plastic Surgical Considerations.

Separation of total vertical craniopagus with shared venous sinuses poses multiple challenges. Provision of soft-tissue cover to the exposed brains at the time of total separation is one of them, due to the large size of the defect and paucity of local tissues. Staged separation of twins is advised with partial venous and parenchymal disconnection in the first stage and total separation in the second stage.

Atypical case of arteriovenous malformation invading into a pedicled medial arm flap.

A 54-year-old woman who had previously undergone total excision of an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) of lower lip and chin along with pedicled medial arm flap reconstruction, presented with recurrence of swelling in the same region. The patient reported progressive difficulty in feeding, talking and constant aching pain besides aesthetic concerns. On evaluation, recurrence of AVM with invasion into the flap substance was identified.

Online teaching platforms have become a core appealing option for education and information delivery in current pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among medical professionals. This editorial aims to understand perspective of usability and practicality of audio and video conferencing platforms in the current situation. Review of various available online platforms was done, namely Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Go ToMeet, and Say Namaste highlighting and comparing their essential features, their benefits, the system and operating system in which they are supported, user interface, number of individuals who can participate, price packages, security, customer support, and limitations.

Approach to a Patient with Cutaneous Malignancy in the Time of COVID-19 Pandemic.

The world is facing an unprecedented crisis of COVID-19 pandemic. This disease has weakened the economy, paralyzed the healthcare system, and worn out the human resources. Patients with cutaneous malignancy or skin cancer comprise a substantial part of the patient population and they need appropriate management of the cancer as they face the risk of COVID-19.

Study of clinical pattern of limb loss in electrical burn injuries.

Introduction: Electrical burn injuries are devastating and cause not only loss of life but also severe disabilities in the form of limb loss. Increase in urbanization, industrialization and overcrowding has led to an increase in electric injuries.

Material And Methods: The study was prospective in nature evaluating electric burns and studied the pattern of limb loss for a duration of 18 months from October 2016 to March 2018.

Optimising Hand Surgery during COVID-19 Pandemic.

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, most health-care personnel and resources are redirected to prioritize care for seriously-ill COVID patients. This situation may poorly impact our capacity to care for critically injured patients. We need to devise a strategy to provide rational and essential care to hand trauma victims whilst the access to theatres and anaesthetic support is limited.

Cryogenic Refrigerant Burns: A Rare Occupational Hazard.

Background: Cryogenic burns induced by coolant gases used in refrigerators and air conditioners are rarely encountered, despite the wide use of these gases. To date, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. This study examined the occupational circumstances leading to such injuries, relevant injury sites, types of chemicals involved, and treatment measures.

The coronavirus disease pandemic has affected our practice as healthcare professionals. As burn surgeons, we are obliged to provide the best possible care to our patients. However, due to the risk of viral transmission, the goal should be to provide safe care to our patients as well as ensure the safety of the whole team providing burn care.

Trapezius Transfer to Restore Shoulder Function in Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury: Revisited and Modified.

Trapezius transfer has shown promise to restore shoulder movements and has stood through the passage of time. We here in describe a modification of trapezius transfer technique and review the current literature available. The modified trapezius transfer in which the trapezius muscle is extended with folded tensor fascia lata graft and attached as distally possible to the deltoid insertion was done in twelve patients at tertiary health care centre in India.

Superstitious beliefs have been frequently encountered in our day-to-day practices among patients and caretakers. Though this is a common phenomenon, there is a paucity of data pertaining to these beliefs due to various reasons. Many of these beliefs are deep engraved into the culture and mindsets of the population.

Introduction: The reconstruction of the postburn contracture area is always a challenge in the field of plastic surgery. Moreover, the joints are very sensitive to trauma and immobilization, showing a susceptibility to stiffness. The aim of this article is to emphasize the use of "Namaste flap"-modification of subcutaneous pedicle propeller flaps in the reconstruction of postburn axillary and elbow contractures.

Synovial Sarcoma of Palm Masquerading as a Neural Tumor: A Challenging Differential Diagnosis.

Synovial sarcoma is one of the common soft-tissue tumors of the body and is usually found on the lower extremity, head-and-neck regions. Reports of monophasic variant of synovial sarcoma in the palm are a rare entity. It can present as a challenge for the surgeons mimicking other conditions.

Objectives: Split thickness skin graft is an essential component of release of post burn contracture of neck. There are many methods of fixation of skin grafts; however, there is lack of objective comparison between different techniques. Tumor Recurrence at Donor Site of Pectoralis Major Myocutaneous Flap with Tumor-free Primary Oral Carcinoma.

Pectoralis major myocutaneous flap is an important option for post onco reconstruction in head and neck region. Among the several complications mentioned in the literature, tumor recurrence at the donor site of flap is late and rare complication. Tumor implantation at the donor site of flap is a possible explanation.

Many chemicals used as medical treatments can cause chemical burns as an untoward side effect. One of such chemicals is potassium permanganate. It is a caustic chemical used as a disinfectant.

Neurogenic diabetes insipidus following head trauma,autoimmune disease and infection is quite common but diabetes insipidus following thermal burn injury is a rare complication.We should know about this complication as its management need a comprehensive approach for satisfactory outcome.

Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumour of the duodenum: a rare entity.

Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumour (PAMT) has recently emerged as a new entity among gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumours. All of the 27 cases reported until now originated from the stomach. We report the first case of a duodenal PAMT arising from the first part of the duodenum in a 19-year-old woman presenting with upper abdominal pain and an abdominal lump.
