The organizational principles of nephronal segments are based on longstanding anatomical and physiological attributes that are closely linked to the homeostatic functions of the kidney. Novel molecular approaches have recently uncovered layers of deeper signatures and states in tubular cells that arise at various timepoints on the spectrum between health and disease. For example, a dedifferentiated state of proximal tubular cells with mesenchymal stemness markers is frequently seen after injury.

A new species of dragonfish Eustomias (Nominostomias) robertsi is described from the western South Pacific Ocean. The new species, the first record of a member of Eustomias (Nominostomias) Group III (sensu Gibbs et al. 1983) from the region, it is most similar to Eustomias suluensis in barbel morphology.

Objective: To estimate the burden of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) through a cross- sectional 'snapshot' of Australian Amyloidosis Network (AAN) and New Zealand (NZ) specialist amyloidosis clinics.

Design, Setting & Participants: A prospective survey was performed of seven AAN/ specialist amyloidosis clinics across Australia and NZ. All centres were invited to contribute data; participating centres provided clinical and demographic data for patients with ATTR-CA reviewed in the 2022 calendar year.

In vivo assessment of a modification of a domiciliary ventilator which reduces oxygen consumption in mechanically ventilated patients.

There are instances where hospitals may experience a relative shortage of oxygen, for example, future pandemics, natural disasters or wartime. We developed a modification to a domiciliary ventilator that captures oxygen normally vented during expiration into the atmosphere, delivering it to the patient. The modification significantly increases PaO in mechanically ventilated patients at their baseline FiO and baseline FiO +1, +2 and +3 L/min compared to no modification.

Rapid metastatic recurrence after pancreatic cancer resection: a multi-center, regional analysis of trends in surgical failure over two decades.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAc) is a lethal malignancy, attributed in part to high rates of rapid recurrence (rrPDAc) following resection. We sought to characterize recurrence rates over time and investigate factors predictive of rrPDAc.

Methods: A regional multi-institutional cancer registry, augmented with data from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database, was queried for patients with PDAc from 1996 to 2020.

Grounded in notions of gendered power and patriarchy, this study aimed to examine hostile masculinity, male peer support for violence against women, and problematic anger as aspects of masculinity connecting childhood victimization and men's violence against women.

Background: Whole blood (WB) resuscitation is increasingly used at trauma centers. Prior studies investigating outcomes in WB versus component-only (CO) resuscitation have been limited by small cohorts, low volumes of WB resuscitation, and unbalanced CO resuscitation. This study aimed to address these limitations using data from a high-volume Level I trauma center, which adopted a WB-first resuscitation paradigm in 2018.

The thermally dynamic nearshore Beaufort Sea, Alaska, is experiencing climate change-driven temperature increases. Measuring thermal tolerance of broad whitefish () and saffron cod (), both important species in the Arctic ecosystem, will enhance understanding of species-specific thermal tolerances. The objectives of this study were to determine the extent that acclimating broad whitefish and saffron cod to 5°C and 15°C changed their critical thermal maximum (CT) and HSP70 protein and mRNA expression in brain, muscle and liver tissues.

Ibrutinib as first-line therapy for mantle cell lymphoma: a multicenter, real-world UK study.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, ibrutinib with or without rituximab was approved in England for initial treatment of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) instead of immunochemotherapy. Because limited data are available in this setting, we conducted an observational cohort study evaluating safety and efficacy. Adults receiving ibrutinib with or without rituximab for untreated MCL were evaluated for treatment toxicity, response, and survival, including outcomes in high-risk MCL (TP53 mutation/deletion/p53 overexpression, blastoid/pleomorphic, or Ki67 ≥ 30%).
