A 37-year-old man with systemic lupus erythematosus underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy as a screening examination for anemia and bloody stool. A semi-pedunculated edematous lobular polyp of 25 mm in size was detected in the greater curvature of the upper gastric body. At that time, a definitive diagnosis of cancer could not be made based on a biopsy specimen from the lesion.

Emergence and Spread of Enterobacterales with Multiple Carbapenemases after COVID-19 Pandemic.

Resistance to carbapenems in has become a matter of the highest concern in the last decade. Recently, harboring multiple carbapenemases were detected in three hospital centers in Croatia and in the outpatient setting, posing a serious therapeutic challenge for clinicians. In this study, we analyzed eight and two complex isolates with multiple carbapenemases, with regard to antibiotic susceptibility, β-lactamase production and plasmid content.

[Gastric varices treated by balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration following oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for gastric cancer].

A 78-year-old female patient with stomach cancer (with hepatic metastasis and peritoneal dissemination) had received eight courses of an S-1 and oxaliplatin regimen as palliative chemotherapy. Computed tomography revealed liver deformities and incidental gastric varices. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy confirmed the findings of gastric varices in the cardia and fornix.

Background: The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between depression literacy (D-Lit) and the development and progression of depressive mood.

Methods: This longitudinal study with multiple cross-sectional analyses used data from a nationwide online questionnaire administered the Wen Juan Xing survey platform. Eligible participants were 18 years or older and had subjectively experienced mild depressive moods at the time of their initial enrollment in the study.

Incidence of severe infection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis taking biologic agents: a systematic review.

Factors associated with EMS on-scene time and its regional difference in road traffic injuries: a population-based observational study.

Background: The outcome of road traffic injury (RTI) is determined by duration of prehospital time, patient's demographics, and the type of injury and its mechanism. During the emergency medical service (EMS) prehospital time interval, on-scene time should be minimized for early treatment. This study aimed to examine the factors influencing on-scene EMS time among RTI patients.

Advancement in nanotechnology to a large extent depends on the ability to manipulate materials at the atomistic level, including positioning single atoms on the active sites of the surfaces of interest, promoting strong chemical bonding. Here, we report a long-time confinement of a single Ag atom inside a corner hole (CH) of the technologically relevant Si(111)-7×7 surface, which has comparable size as a fullerene C molecule with a single dangling bond at the bottom center. Experiments reveal that a set of 17 Ag atoms stays entrapped in the CH for the entire duration of experiment, 4 days and 7 h.

Diffusion of OXA-48 carbapenemase among urinary isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in non-hospitalized elderly patients.

Background: Recently, a dramatic increase of Klebsiella pneumoniae positive for OXA-48 β-lactamases was observed first in the hospital setting and later in the long-term care facilities (LTCFs) and community in the Zagreb County, particularly, in urinary isolates. The aim of the study was to analyse the epidemiology and the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance of OXA-48 carbapenemase producing K. pneumoniae strains isolated from urine of non-hospitalized elderly patients.

N-glycan signature of serum immunoglobulins as a diagnostic biomarker of urothelial carcinomas.

Discriminating between urothelial carcinoma (UC), including bladder cancer (BCa) and upper urinary tract UC (UTUC), is often challenging. Thus, the current study evaluated the diagnostic performance of N-glycosylation signatures of immunoglobulins (Igs) for detecting UC, including BCa and UTUC. N-glycosylation signatures of Igs from serum samples of the training cohort, including 104 BCa, 68 UTUC, 10 urinary tract infection, and 5 cystitis cases, as well as 62 healthy volunteers, were measured retrospectively using automated capillary-electrophoresis-based N-glycomics.

Essential hyaluronan structure for binding with hyaluronan-binding protein (HABP) determined by glycotechnological approach.

Hyaluronan specifically binds to aggrecan globular domain 1, which is often referred to as just hyaluronan binding protein (HABP), however, the hyaluronan carbohydrate structure recognized by HABP had not been studied in detail. The aim of the present study was to investigate the important structure of hyaluronan for binding to HABP. We prepared hybrid oligosaccharides from hyaluronan and chondroitin, with or without modification of the reducing or non-reducing terminus, as tools to determine the preferred structure of hyaluronan for binding to the HABP by a competitive ELISA-like method.

Background: We evaluated whether oral vitamin D supplementation during the winter and early spring reduces the incidence of influenza and upper respiratory infections in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Methods: A randomized, double-blind, controlled trial was conducted to compare the effects of vitamin D supplementation (500 IU/day) and a placebo. The primary outcome was the incidence of influenza; the secondary outcome was the incidence of upper respiratory infection.

Increase of Tumor Infiltrating γδ T-cells in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Through Remodeling of the Extracellular Matrix by a Hyaluronan Synthesis Suppressor, 4-Methylumbelliferone.

Objectives: Desmoplastic changes of extracellular matrix (ECM) containing large amounts of hyaluronan (HA) are of interest in chemo- and immunoresistance of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of 4-methylumbelliferone (MU), a selective inhibitor of HA, on ECM and to examine how MU affects adoptive immunotherapy.

Methods: The effect of MU on cell proliferation, HA synthesis and formation of ECM were investigated in four PDAC cell lines.

Synthesis of 5-Aryl-3(2 H)-furanones Using Intramolecular Cyclization of Sulfonium Salts.

Base-induced intramolecular cyclization of novel (4-aryl-2,4-dioxobutyl)methylphenylsulfonium salts prepared from the commercially available 1-arylethanone by a cost-effective process is described in this paper. The reaction was completed within 10 min to produce a family of 2-unsubstituted 5-aryl-3(2 H)-furanones in excellent yield. This procedure is simple, and can be carried out under mild conditions and an ambient atmosphere.

The ability to identify the users touching the table and their positions can promote collaborative work among participants, so methods have been studied that involve attaching sensors to the table, chairs, or to the users themselves. An effective method of recognizing user actions without placing a burden on the user would be some type of visual process, so the development of a method that processes multi-touch gestures by visual means is desired.
