While screening for antibiotics in a marine sample, we discovered a berninamycin C-producing actinomycete, designated YSPA8, isolated from a sponge. A polyphasic approach was used to determine the taxonomic position of the strain. Strain YSPA8 formed sympodially branched aerial mycelia that ultimately segment into chains of spores.

A polyphasic approach was used to determine the taxonomic position of a marine actinomycete, designated isolate CWH03, which we previously reported to produce new linear azole-containing peptides spongiicolazolicins A and B. Strain CWH03 is mesophilic, neutrophilic, and halotolerant streptomycete that forms spiral spore chains on aerial mycelium. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that CWH03 was most closely related to Streptomyces tirandamycinicus HNM0039 (99.

Background And Purpose: 4-Phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) is a chemical chaperone that eliminates the accumulation of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). However, its chaperoning ability is often weak and unable to attenuate the unfolded protein response (UPR) in vitro or in vivo. To develop more potent chemical chaperones, we synthesized six analogues of 4-PBA and evaluated their pharmacological actions on the UPR.

The structural characterization of glycolipids from Thermus thermophilus HB8 was performed in this study. Two neutral and one acidic glycolipids were extracted and purified by the modified TLC-blotting method, after which their chemical structures were determined by chemical composition analysis, mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The structure of one of the neutral glycolipids, NGL-A, was Galp(α1-6)GlcpNacyl(β1-2)Glcp(α1-)acyl(2)Gro, and the other, NGL-C, was Galf(β1-2)Galp(α1-6)GlcpNacyl(β1-2)Glcp(α1-)acyl(2)Gro.
