Design and Implementation of a Video-Frame Localization System for a Drifting Camera-Based Sewer Inspection System.

To reduce the cost of inspecting old sewer pipes, we have been developing a low-cost sewer inspection system that uses drifting wireless cameras to record videos of the interior of a sewer pipe while drifting. The video's data are transmitted to access points placed in utility holes and further transmitted to a video server where each video frame is linked to its capturing position so that users can identify the damaged areas. However, in small-diameter sewer pipes, locating drifting nodes over the full extent of the pipeline using Wi-Fi-based localization is difficult due to the limited reach of radio waves.

Clinicoradiological changes of brain NK/T cell lymphoma manifesting pure akinesia: a case report.

Background: Pure akinesia (PA) is a distinct form of parkinsonism characterized by freezing phenomena. Little is known about brain tumor-associated PA. We highlight the clinicoradiological changes in a patient with PA and central nervous system (CNS) metastases of natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL).

Breath Hydrogen Gas Concentration Linked to Intestinal Gas Distribution and Malabsorption in Patients with Small-bowel Pseudo-obstruction.

Background: The patient with colonic obstruction may frequently have bacterial overgrowth and increased breath hydrogen (H2) levels because the bacterium can contact with food residues for longer time. We experienced two cases with intestinal obstruction whose breath H2 concentrations were measured continuously. CASE 1: A 70-year-old woman with small bowel obstruction was treated with a gastric tube.

Breath hydrogen and methane levels in a patient with volvulus of the sigmoid colon.

Volvulus of the large bowel is the third most common cause of colonic obstruction. A patient with colonic obstruction or delayed small intestinal transit may frequently have bacterial overgrowth and increased breath hydrogen (H(2)) and/or methane (CH(4)) excretion because the bacterium can contact with food residues for a longer time. A 39 year old woman attended our hospital with complaints of abdominal pain and distension.

Nizatidine Improves Impaired Salivary Secretion in GERD.

Unlabelled: During esophageal acid clearance, salivation plays an important role in defending the esophageal mucosa. Nizatidine, a histamine H2 receptor antagonist, inhibits acetylcholine esterase, with a resultant increase in acetylcholine. We experienced a patient with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and impaired salivary secretion who has been successfully treated with nizatidine.

Endoscopic 13C-urea breath test for detection of Helicobacter pylori infection after partial gastrectomy.

Background/aims: It is difficult to interpret the results of 13C-urea breath test (UBT) in gastrectomy patients because the test urea may pass through the stomach faster. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the modified endoscopic UBT for detection of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in the residual stomach.

[Four cases of therapy-related leukemia in multiple myeloma].

We have experienced 4 cases of therapy-related leukemia (TRL) in 119 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) who had received combination chemotherapy including alkylating agents between 1988 and 1998. All 4 cases were acute myelogenous leukemia, 3 were males and 1 was female. Median age at diagnosis of MM was 60 years, and median time to TRL from diagnosis of MM was 5.

Seventy-five gram glucose tolerance test to assess carbohydrate malabsorption and small bowel bacterial overgrowth.

Aim: To investigate non-invasively the incidence of absorption of carbohydrates in diabetic patients during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and to determine whether malabsorption may be associated with insulin secretion and insulin resistance.

Methods: A standard 75-g OGTT was performed in 82 diabetic patients. The patients received 75 g of anhydrous glucose in 225 mL of water after an overnight fasting and breath samples were collected at baseline and up to 120 min after ingestion.

Aim: To investigate the incidence of bacterial overgrowth in the stomach by using a new endoscopic method in which intragastric hydrogen and methane gases are collected and analyzed.

Methods: Studies were performed in 490 consecutive patients undergoing esophagogastroscopy. At endoscopy, we intubated the stomach without inflation by air, and 20 mL of intragastric gas was collected through the biopsy channel using a 30 mL syringe.
