Effect of four direct pulp capping agents on human dental pulp tissue.

Direct pulp capping (DPC) is a vital pulp therapy, wherein accidental or carious pulp exposures can be capped with various materials to induce reparative dentine formation. One of the major factors that determine the success of direct pulp capping procedures is the material used. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate and compare the efficacy of a new material, Tristrontium aluminate in comparison with the widely used materials such as ProRoot MTA, Biodentine & TheraCal LC.

Diagnostic yield of calcofluor white in the identification of Candida albicans in oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Background: Although oral cancer is multifactorial in origin only few had evaluated the diagnostic parameters for candidal infection in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Aims: To compare and assess the accuracy of Calcofluor White (CFW) to that of conventional staining methods to identify the presence of candidal infection in OSCC.

Methods: Archival collections of 43 OSCC were retrieved for this investigation.

Gorlin syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited condition that exhibits high penetrance and variable expressivity. The syndrome is caused by mutations in PTCH, a tumor suppressor gene that has been mapped to chromosome 9q22.3-q31.

Pink bodies with halo.

The presence of eosinophilic Toto bodies in oral lesions could be found in a variety of situations and sometime may present a challenge to the pathologist. We present three case reports where the oral biopsy was taken from the gingival region of a 30-year-old female, a 32-year-old male patient and another from the buccal mucosa of a 67-year-old male patient. Histopathologically, the three cases were finally diagnosed as pyogenic granuloma and moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with the presence of clusters of Toto bodies in the upper spinous layer of stratified squamous epithelium.

Cytomorphometric analysis of gingival epithelium and buccal mucosa cells in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Background: The global prevalence of type 2 diabetes continues to rise. Interest has been increasing recently in noninvasive diagnostic procedure. Hence, an attempt has been made by the present study to analyze the changes in cytomorphometry in exfoliated buccal and gingival mucosa cells in type 2 diabetic patients.

Fibrosarcoma of maxilla: A rare case report.

Fibrosarcoma is a malignant tumor of fibroblasts. At one time, it was considered one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas. However, the diagnosis of fibrosarcoma is made much less frequently today because of the recognition and separate classification of other spindle cell lesions that have similar microscopic features.

Background: Predentin, the unmineralized organic matrix is important in maintaining the integrity of dentin. It is usually thick where active dentinogenesis occurs. A wide variation in its thickness is reported.

Intramuscular hemangioma of the oral cavity - a case report.

Haemangiomas are the most common benign soft tissue tumor of the oral cavity. It often presents at birth or soon after, and appears as a soft and vascular swelling in lip, tongue, or buccal mucosa. This article reports a rare case of intra muscular haemangioma of the buccal mucosa in a 27-year-old female patient.
