Article Synopsis
- The study evaluates the long-term effectiveness of whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) combined with intrathecal (i.th.) and intravenous (i.v.) chemotherapy in patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) from 1987 to 1995.
- Out of 14 patients, those who received both forms of chemotherapy faced more disease progression, with a median survival rate of 41 months; 3 and 5-year survival rates were 59% and 42%, respectively.
- The findings suggest that this treatment approach leads to significant long-term survival while causing moderate toxicity, and the role of i.v. chemotherapy is being further explored in ongoing studies.
