Background: Recently performed vascularized composite tissue allotransplantations (CTAs) stimulate the ongoing research in the area of whole-limb transplantation. A reliable in vivo animal model is required for investigations in vascularized whole-limb CTA. The model should allow in vivo assessment in whole-limb preservation, allograft and xenograft response, and host immunomodulation.

Retrograde hypogastric artery embolization to treat iliac artery aneurysms growing after aortoiliac repair.

Transarterial embolization of the feeding internal iliac artery branches via the hypogastric-femoral collateral pathway was feasible in four patients with expanding iliac artery aneurysms and occluded internal iliac artery origins after aortoiliac repair.

CT-guided navigation of percutaneous hepatic and renal radiofrequency ablation under high-frequency jet ventilation: feasibility study.

Purpose: Computed tomography (CT)-guided navigation during percutaneous radiofrequency (RF) ablations of liver and kidney lesions is hampered by respiratory motion and time-dependent lesion conspicuity after contrast agent injection. Therefore, target immobilization by general anesthesia with high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) instead of conventional ventilation (CV) with repeated breath-holds may facilitate and speed up navigation of RF ablation probes.

Materials And Methods: Nineteen consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous RF ablation of liver (n = 9) or renal tumors (n = 10) with CT guidance under HFJV (n = 9) or CV (n = 10) were included.

Purpose: To quantitatively compare the muscle cross-sectional areas (CSAs) of the cervical muscles in symptomatic acute whiplash patients versus healthy controls. We hypothesized, that symptomatic whiplash patients have smaller cervical muscle CSAs than matched controls and that smaller cervical muscle CSAs in women might explain that women more frequently are symptomatic after whiplash injury than men.

Objective: To compare image quality and radiation dose of thoracoabdominal computed tomography (CT) angiography at 80 and 100 kVp and to assess the feasibility of reducing contrast medium volume from 60 to 45 mL at 80 kVp.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study had institutional review board approval; informed consent was waived. Seventy-five patients who had undergone thoracoabdominal 64-section multidetector-row CT angiography were divided into 3 groups of 25 patients each.

Bilateral intralobar pulmonary sequestration in a newborn, case report and review of the literature on bilateral pulmonary sequestrations.

We describe a rare case of bilateral intralobar pulmonary sequestration in a newborn with both sequestrations vascularized from a vessel arising from the celiac trunk of the abdominal aorta. The larger sequestration on the right side was diagnosed antenatally, the left side postnatally. At the age of 7 months, the child underwent successful bilateral thoracotomy.

Altered mammary epithelial development, pattern formation and involution in transgenic mice expressing the EphB4 receptor tyrosine kinase.

We have previously documented the cell-type-specific and hormone-dependent expression of the EphB4 receptor in the mouse mammary gland. To investigate its role in the biology of the mammary gland, we have established transgenic mice bearing the EphB4 receptor under the control of the MMTV-LTR promoter, which represents the first transgenic mouse model to investigate the effect(s) of unscheduled expression of EphB4 in adult organisms. Transgene expression in the mammary epithelium was induced at puberty, increased during pregnancy, culminated at early lactation and persisted until day three of post-lactational involution.
