Introduction: Laparoscopic Heller miotomy of achalasia has been classically recognized as the gold standard management in children. There is increasing experience with the peroral endoscopic miotomy (POEM) approach in pediatrics, although the series published are scarce. - A study involving 112 patients aimed to explore the relationship between TGA levels, genetic markers, and biopsy results, finding that most patients were positive for HLA-DQ2 and showed correlations between TGA levels and intestinal damage.
- The results indicated that older patients tend to have lower TGA levels, and those with severe intestinal damage (Marsh III) correlated with growth failure but not with constipation, highlighting important diagnostic markers for CD.
Omental infarction and epiploic appendagitis are rare causes of acute abdominal pain in the pediatric population. Radiological evaluation is necessary to establish a specific diagnosis and to differentiate appendicitis from these conditions as they can be often managed conservatively without surgical intervention.
