Quantitative assessment of root resorption in TAD-aided anchorage with and without RAP: A CBCT study on en masse retraction cases.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the amount of root resorption with mini implant-aided anchorage, with and without inducing the regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP) in en masse retraction cases using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Methods: Thirty patients requiring therapeutic extraction of all first premolars were included in the study and randomly divided into two groups of fifteen patients each (groups I and II). Patients of both groups underwent retraction using mini implants.

Background: Vaccine antigens targeting specific parasite stages are under pre-clinical and clinical development. It seems plausible that vaccine with multiple specificities will offer higher protection. With this hypothesis, we exploited the Spy-Tag/SpyCatcher conjugation system to make a, post expression, dual antigen conjugate vaccine, comprising two clinically tested antigen candidates (CSP and VAR2CSA).

Water contamination with heavy metals and trace elements from Kilembe copper mine and tailing sites in Western Uganda; implications for domestic water quality.

The mining and processing of copper in Kilembe, Western Uganda, from 1956 to 1982 left over 15 Mt of cupriferous and cobaltiferous pyrite dumped within a mountain river valley, in addition to mine water which is pumped to the land surface. This study was conducted to assess the sources and concentrations of heavy metals and trace elements in Kilembe mine catchment water. Multi-element analysis of trace elements from point sources and sinks was conducted which included mine tailings, mine water, mine leachate, Nyamwamba River water, public water sources and domestic water samples using ICP-MS.

Total Phenol Content and In Vitro Antioxidant Potential of Helicanthus elastica (Desr.) Danser-A Less-explored Indian Mango Mistletoe.

Natural products are an important source of antioxidant molecules like tannins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, etc., Helicanthus elastica (Desr.) Danser (Loranthaceae) is one such plant belonging to the category of mistletoe, and grows commonly on the mango trees in India.

The toxicity of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate to the fish, Catla catla (Hamilton).

The acute toxicity of unionized ammonia; nitrite and nitrate to the Indian major carp Catla catla (Hamilton) was determined using static and continuous flow through systems for 24 hours. The median lethal concentration (LC50) values for 24 h of ammonia (NH3-N), nitrite (NO2-N) and nitrate (NO3-N) were 0.045 mg/l, 120.

Toxicity and residue studies of fenvalerate to some selected freshwater fishes.

The toxicity test of fenvalerate were conducted to fresh water fishes Labeo rohita (Hamilton), Catla catla (Hamilton), Cirrhinus mrigala (Hamilton), Aplocheilus punchex (Hamilton) and Ctenopharygodon idellus (Valenciennes). The static and continuous flow through tests were employed to determine the lethal concentration (LC50) for 24h, 48h and 96h to the test fish. It was observed that Cirrhinus mrigala is more sensitive to this pesticide followed by Applochielus punchex, Lebeo rohita, Catla catla and Ctenopharyngodon idellus.

Antitumour activity of poochendurappattai in albino rats in albino rats.

The water extract of poochendurappattai was screened for antitumour activity at the doss of 5mg, 10mg, 20mg and 50 mg/kg body weight in rats against methylcholanthrene induced fibrosarcoma. There was 63% regression in the tumour weight at the doses of 10mg and 20 mg/kg body weight. This antitumour activity may be due to compounds like royaleanones since royaleanones are known to possess anticancer activity.

On the antibacterial activity of some siddha medicines.

Talaka mattirai, Iti vallati meluku, tamibira parpam and Naka centuram of siddha system of medicine were screened for antibacterial activity against S. aureus, S.citreus, S.

Hepatoprotective activity of navayasa curna and hasava combination.

Navayasa curna mixed in Lohasava was screened for hepatoprotective activity against carbon tetrachloride induced liver injury in albino rats at a dose of 100mg/kg body weight. The drug reduced liver weight, alkaline phosphatase and GOT activity in liver and chloresterol and GPT activity in serum. There was no effect on protein and liver glycogen.

Chemical composition of patikaraparpam.

Patikaraparpam, a Siddha formulation in prepared by trituration of potash alum with egg albumin followed by calcinatin. The three authentic laboratories made parpams as well as six commercial samples have been examined for their chemical composition. The analytical data that emerged from the analysis of the above samples showed that seven parpams contained only aluminium sulphate and they did respond to tests for potassium.

Anti-inflammatory activiy of premna tomentosa willd. In albino rats.

An alcoholic extract of the leaves of Premna tomentosa Willd at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity in albino rats. The extract caused reduction in the weight of spleen, thymus and adrenals. It reduced cotton pellet granuloma by 32.

Antiinflammatory and antipyretic activity of vicolides of Vicoa indica DC.

Vicolides A,B, C and D, the sesquiterpene lactones isolated from V. indica exhibited antiinflammatory activity against cotton pellet granuloma in rats at dose level of 10 mg/kg body weight, sc. Highly significant activity was observed with vicolides C and D.
