Objectives: To characterize the relationship between perceived stress and Adult Protective Services (APS) elder abuse cases in a population-based sample.
Design: Cross-sectional.
Setting: Chicago.
Objective: Depression is conceptualized as both a risk factor for and a consequence of elder abuse; however, current research is equivocal. This study examined associations between elder abuse and dimensions of depressive symptoms in older adults.
Method: Participants were 10,419 older adults enrolled in theChicago Health and Aging Project (CHAP), a population-based study of older adults.
Context: Dementia care giving can lead to increased stress, physical and psychosocial morbidity, and mortality. Anecdotal evidence suggests that hospice care provided to people with dementia and their caregivers may buffer caregivers from some of the adverse outcomes associated with family caregiving in Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
Objectives: This pilot study examined psychological and physical outcomes among 32 spousal caregivers of patients with AD.
