Control of metabolic adaptation to fasting by dILP6-induced insulin signaling in Drosophila oenocytes.

Metabolic adaptation to changing dietary conditions is critical to maintain homeostasis of the internal milieu. In metazoans, this adaptation is achieved by a combination of tissue-autonomous metabolic adjustments and endocrine signals that coordinate the mobilization, turnover, and storage of nutrients across tissues. To understand metabolic adaptation comprehensively, detailed insight into these tissue interactions is necessary.

Stages of change in physical activity: a validation study in late adolescence.

The present study explores the validity of a recent stages of change (SoC) measure and algorithm among a sample of late adolescents. MANOVA and structural equation modeling are used to assess the relationship between five SoC groups (precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance) and a set of dependent measures including physical activity level, physical activity motivation, physical self-concept, and flow. Findings are based on 705 Australian adolescents, using scale score and latent variable approaches, provided support for the construct validity of the SoC measure and algorithm.

Long and short measures of flow: the construct validity of the FSS-2, DFS-2, and new brief counterparts.

Long and short flow scales are examined from dispositional (n=652 long; n=692 short) and state (n=499 long; n=865 short) perspectives. The long flow scales constitute a 36-item multidimensional assessment of flow and have previously demonstrated good psychometric properties. The short flow scales constitute new abbreviated versions of the long forms, contain 9 items, and provide a brief measure of flow from a dimensional perspective.

Ontogeny of low molecular weight stress protein p26 during early development of the brine shrimp, Artemia franciscana.

Embryogenesis in the brine shrimp, Artemia sp., occurs by one of two pathways: (i) the direct, uninterrupted development of nauplius larvae within the female or (ii) the production of embryos that arrest development at the gastrula stage and enter diapause. Diapause embryos are released from females into the aqueous environment where they remain in diapause until activated by appropriate environmental cues and resume development.
