As most plastic materials disintegrate without being properly reused after they are discarded, this present study developed a novel thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) using recycled high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) and natural rubber (NR) with kenaf fibre as a sustainable filler. Apart from being used as filler, this present study aimed to examine the use of kenaf fibre as a natural anti-degradant as well. The results indicated that the tensile strength of the samples was found to have significantly decreased after 6 months of natural weathering and had decreased by a further 30% after 12 months due to the chain scission of the polymeric backbones and the degradation of the kenaf fibre.

Natural rubber (NR) is incompatible with hydrophilic additives like halloysite nanotubes (HNT) due to their different polarity. The silane coupling agent is the ideal component to include in such a compound to solve this problem. Many types of silane are available for polymer composites depending on their functionalities.

A massive demand for rubber-based goods, particularly gloves, was sparked by the emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic worldwide. This resulted in thousands of tons of gloves being scrapped due to the constant demand for the items, endangering our environment in a grave way. In this work, we aimed to focus on the utilization of waste nitrile gloves (r-NBR) as a component blended with natural rubber (NR).

Introduction And Importance: Mucinous cystadenoma occurs in 10-15% of all ovarian tumors. Diagnosis and treatment should be decided precisely as it has a chance to develop into pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Management of PMP might be challenging especially when repeated surgery is needed.

Halloysite Nanotubes (HNT) are chemically similar to clay, which makes them incompatible with non-polar rubbers such as natural rubber (NR). Modification of NR into a polar rubber is of interest. In this work, Epoxidized Natural Rubber (ENR) was prepared in order to obtain a composite that could assure filler-matrix compatibility.

Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) are naturally occurring tubular clay made of aluminosilicate sheets rolled several times. HNT has been used to reinforce many rubbers. However, the narrow diameter of this configuration causes HNT to have poor interfacial contact with the rubber matrix.

Genetic variation of antigen-processing machinery (APM) components has been shown to be associated with cervical carcinoma risk and outcome in a genetically homogeneous Dutch population. However, the role of APM component single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genetically heterogeneous populations with different distributions of human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes remains unclear. Eleven non-synonymous, coding SNPs in the TAP1, TAP2, LMP2, LMP7 and ERAP1 genes were genotyped in cervical carcinoma patients and healthy controls from two distinct Indonesian populations (Balinese and Javanese).

Although platelets have specific bindingsites for LDL and HDL, it is doubtful whether lipoproteins modulate platelet functions via receptor-mediated processes. We investigated platelet-lipoprotein interaction during prolonged incubation with concentrations of LDL and HDL that saturate the bindingsites within a few minutes. When [3H]arachidonate-labeled human platelets were incubated for 4 h with lipoproteins, part of the 3H-radioactivity transferred to LDL and to a lesser extent to HDL.

Studies with isolated lipoproteins and washed platelets suggest that lipoproteins may affect platelet functions. We investigated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from a patient with abetalipoproteinemia (ABL), whose plasma lacks apo-B containing lipoproteins (VLDL, LDL and chylomicrons). ABL-PRP aggregated poorly with different agonists and failed to respond to arachidonate.

The degradation of platelet-activating factor (PAF) in plasma is catalyzed by PAF-acetylhydrolase resulting in lyso-PAF which is biologically inactive. Normally, most of the PAF-degrading activity is associated with low-density lipoproteins (LDL). The enzyme activity was measured in the plasma of a patient with abetalipoproteinemia, a disorder characterized by the absence of apolipoprotein-B-containing lipoproteins (chylomicrons, VLDL and LDL).
