Seven edible plants including three unexplored species of high altitude (Ladakh) region were screened for antioxidant activity by bioassay guided fractionation method. The objective of the study was to dereplicate the complex phytochemical matrix of a plant in reference to antioxidant activity in vitro. The screening result showed that ethylacetate fraction of possesses maximum antioxidant activity, comparable to that of green tea.

The chemical investigation of the bioactive nonpolar fractions of Tanacetum gracile afforded two flavonoid analogues namely, 5-hydroxy-3,6,7,3',4'-pentamethoxyflavone (1) and 5,4'-dihydroxy-3,6,7,3',4'-tetramethoxyflavone (2) which were identical to the previously reported artemetin and chrysosplenetin respectively. The structure of the compounds was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidences and they showed significant cytotoxic activity against human breast cancer cells (MCF-7 and T47D). Mechanism based study showed that the compounds modulated microtubule depolymerization by activating mitotic spindle checkpoint.

Chemical investigation of Codonopsis ovata resulted in the isolation and identification of β-sitosterol-3-O-glycoside, luteolin, apigenin, gentiacaulein, swertiaperenine, β-sitosterol, taraxeryl-3-acetate, and 3β-acetoxyoleanane-12-one. A rapid, precise, sensitive and validated HPTLC method for simultaneous quantification of these natural products (NPs) was developed on silica-gel 60F254 plate using ternary solvent system, n-hexane:ethyl acetate:formic acid (10.5:3.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of an alcoholic extract of Cicer microphyllum (I(3) M/38/A001) (whole plant without seeds and flowers) on the immunological parameters of sheep red blood cell immunized normal and chronically stressed Swiss albino mice.

Methods: Estimation of T-cell subsets (CD3(+) , CD4(+) /CD8(+) ), CD80/CD86, CD28, CD 69, costimulatory molecules and Th1/Th2 cytokines was carried out using a flow cytometer. This was followed by study of the delayed type hypersensitivity response, in-vitro lymphocyte proliferation assay and measurement of Th1/Th2 cytokines in isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells by flow cytometry.
