Some hip fractures, called intertrochanteric fractures, can be unstable and might involve a part of the bone called the lesser trochanter.
Doctors often fix these fractures using a device called a gamma nail, but sometimes this can lead to a problem called a false aneurysm in a blood vessel.
Detecting a false aneurysm can be tricky since it doesn’t have clear signs, so doctors use special imaging tests to find it, and if it's big, surgery might be needed, while smaller ones can be fixed in a different way.
