Impaired cholesterol efflux and/or uptake can influence arterial lipid accumulation leading to atherosclerosis. Here, we report that tripartite motif-containing protein 13 (TRIM13), a RING-type E3 ubiquitin ligase, plays a role in arterial lipid accumulation leading to atherosclerosis. Using molecular approaches and KO mouse model, we found that TRIM13 expression was induced both in the aorta and peritoneal macrophages (pMφ) of ApoE mice in response to Western diet (WD) in vivo.

Cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of various diseases including atherosclerosis but its role in neointimal hyperplasia which contributes to restenosis has not been studied. Using molecular approaches in combination with a mouse vascular endothelial denudation model, we studied the role of CD47 in injury-induced neointimal hyperplasia. We determined that thrombin-induced CD47 expression both in human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) and mouse aortic smooth muscle cells.

Approach and Results: A combination of genetic, molecular, cellular, and disease models were used to test species-specific role of LMCD1 in the pathogenesis of vascular lesions. Objective- IL (interleukin)-33 has been shown to play a role in endothelial dysfunction, but its role in atherosclerosis is controversial. We investigated the link between polymorphisms in genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) and Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma coactivator-1 alpha (PGC-1α) and further studied the role of these genes on the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This case-control study was carried out in 118 PCOS cases and 110 controls. In the present study we genotyped three polymorphisms of PGC1-α gene (rs8192678-Gly482Ser, rs13131226 and rs2970856) and polymorphism of TFAM gene (rs1937-+35G/C) by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) analysis.

In the present study, we sequenced the entire mitochondrial D-loop region (1124 bp) of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients (n = 174) and controls (n = 170) of south Indian origin to identify significant mutations/polymorphisms. Our results showed 152 polymorphisms in the D-loop region of patients and/or controls.

Genetic alterations and aberrant expression of 'mitochondrial membrane complex I' (MMC-I) underlie several complex human disorders, but no reports are documented to date in endometriosis. Sequencing of mitochondrially encoded MMC-I subunits revealed 72 mutations of which 2 missense (G10398A; A13603A/G) mutations and 1 synonymous (T10400C) mutation showed higher prevalence in patients. In silico functional analysis predicted A13603A/G, a novel heteroplasmy as a 'damaging variant'.
