Open traumatic scapulothoracic dissociation: Case report of a rare injury.

Open traumatic scapulothoracic dissociation is a rare and devastating injury. We are reporting a 21-year-old male factory worker who sustained a traumatic open scapulothoracic dissociation. His left arm was caught in conveyer belts resulting the arm, scapula, clavicle, and pectoral muscle torn from the body by tremendous traction force.

What the mind does not know, the eyes do not see: a rare congenital fusion of the odontoid process to the atlantal hemiarch.

Congenital spinal fusion of an odontoid process to an atlantal hemiarch is very rare. The unfamiliarity of the medical fraternity with this congenital malformation can easily be mistaken for an acute fracture, chronic infection or inflammatory disease. We present our experience of managing an adult who presented with neck pain after a motor vehicle accident.

Closed reduction techniques in acute anterior shoulder dislocation: modified Milch technique compared with traction-countertraction technique.

Background: To perform closed manual reduction of acute anterior shoulder dislocation using the traction-countertraction technique requires sedation (TCTS) and the participation of 2 people. We studied the modified Milch (MM) technique, a positional reductive maneuver that requires 1 operator, without patient sedation or analgesia.

Materials And Methods: The study comprised 56 prospective nonrandomized consecutive patients, of whom 31 were in group A (MM, nonsedated) and 25 in group B (TCTS).

Radiological assessment of cervical lateral mass screw angulations in Asian patients.

Background: Various lateral mass screw fixation methods have been described in the literature with various levels of safety in relation to the anterior neurovascular structures. This study was designed to radiologically determine the minimum lateral angulations of the screw to avoid penetration of the vertebral artery canalusing three of the most common techniques: Roy-Camille, An, and Magerl.

Materials And Methods: Sixty normal cervical CT scans were reviewed.

Antegrade Versus Retrograde Locked Intramedullary Nailing for Femoral Fractures: Which Is Better?

Background: Locked intramedullary nailing or interlocking nailing (ILN) is a proven mode of treatment for femoral shaft fractures. It can be inserted via the antegrade or retrograde approach. Retrograde approach is technically less demanding especially if the patient is overweight.
