Association between mutations and brain glioma grade.

Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1/2 (/2 mutations are frequently detected in glioma. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between /2 mutations and glioma grades. The current study was retrospective and used samples from 206 patients with brain glioma and 9 patients with spinal cord glioma as a control.

Bioinformatics analysis of the molecular mechanism of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.

The present study aimed to elucidate key molecular mechanisms in the progression of diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). The gene expression profile GSE50021, which consisted of 35 pediatric DIPG samples and 10 normal brain samples, was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) in the pediatric DIPG samples were identified.

Overexpression of netrin-1 increases the expression of tight junction-associated proteins, claudin-5, occludin, and ZO-1, following traumatic brain injury in rats.

The function of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) depends on the integrity of tight junction (TJ)-associated proteins. Netrin-1 is known to promote angiogenesis and may also regulate the BBB. To understand the association between netrin-1 and the TJ-associated proteins, the expression levels of proteins involved in maintaining the integrity of the BBB, including netrin-1, claudin-5, occludin and zonula occluden (ZO)-1, were investigated in the present study using quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blot analysis and immunofluorescence.

Diagnosis and stereotactic aspiration treatment of cerebral sparganosis: summary of 11 cases.

Object: Cerebral sparganosis is a rare but underestimated parasitic disease caused by infestation by sparganum. It is difficult to make a confirmed preoperational diagnosis of this disease given the absence of characteristic clinical manifestations. A detailed protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of cerebral sparganosis is still lacking in the literature.

Violent head trauma in China: report of 2254 cases.

Background: The occurrence of violent trauma has recently increased, and it has become both a social and medical problem in China. We are the first to explore violent head trauma in China.

Methods: Patients with violent head trauma were taken from all hospitalized patients with head trauma from January 2001 to December 2006 admitted to 11 hospitals in China.
