Hair growth cycles are mainly regulated by human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) and human outer root sheath cells (hORSCs). Protecting hDPCs from excessive oxidative stress and hORSCs from glycogen phosphorylase (PYGL) is crucial to maintaining the hair growth phase, anagen. In this study, we developed a new PYGL inhibitor, Hydroxytrimethylpyridinyl Methylindolecarboxamide (HTPI) and assessed its potential to prevent hair loss.

Muscle atrophy is a debilitating condition with various causes; while aging is one of these causes, reduced engagement in routine muscle‑strengthening activities also markedly contributes to muscle loss. Although extensive research has been conducted on microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) and their associations with muscle atrophy, the roles played by miRNA precursors remain underexplored. The present study detected the upregulation of the miR‑206 precursor in cell‑free (cf)RNA from the plasma of patients at risk of sarcopenia, and in cfRNAs from the muscles of mice subjected to muscle atrophy.

Purpose: We conducted a phase II study evaluating pembrolizumab plus gemcitabine, vinorelbine, and liposomal doxorubicin (pembro-GVD) as second-line therapy for relapsed or refractory (rel/ref) classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03618550).

Methods: Transplant eligible patients with rel/ref cHL following first-line therapy were treated with two to four cycles of pembrolizumab (200 mg intravenous [IV], day 1), gemcitabine (1,000 mg/m IV, days 1 and 8), vinorelbine (20 mg/m IV, days 1 and 8), and liposomal doxorubicin (15 mg/m, days 1 and 8), given on 21-day cycles.

Background: Recent studies have demonstrated the molecular basis of the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3)(1,25-(OH)(2)D(3)). This hormone improves behavioral deficits and normalizes the nigral dopamine levels in animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: We studied whether the administration of 1,25-(OH)(2)D(3) would protect against 6-hydroxydopa (6-OHDA)- and 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced neuronal injury, and its potential regulatory effect on microglia activation.
