Article Synopsis
  • Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are gaining interest in sample preparation but their small size limits their use in solid-phase extraction (SPE).
  • Researchers synthesized core-shell MWNTs@COFs composites (MWNTs@SNW-1) using multiwalled nanotubes as a substrate, achieving improved surface area, thermal stability, and adsorption capacity.
  • The composites were utilized in SPE to extract phytohormones, demonstrating effective extraction parameters and excellent analytical performance for detecting these compounds in fruit juices.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel electrospun nanofiber composite (PAN@COF-SCU1) was developed for extracting tetracycline antibiotics from food, enhancing both adsorption capacity and stability.
  • The study investigated various factors affecting extraction efficiency, such as COF loading in the nanofibers and solvent choice.
  • A new pipette tip solid-phase extraction (PT-SPE) method, coupled with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), achieved high sensitivity and precision for detecting tetracycline residues in grass carp and duck samples.

In this work, covalent organic frameworks SNW-1 incorporated polyacrylonitrile (SNW-1@PAN) nanofiber was synthesized and used as pipette tip solid phase extraction (PT-SPE) adsorbent for preconcentration of five sulfonamides (SAs) in meat samples. The SNW-1@PAN nanofiber was fabricated via two steps, including the hydrothermal synthesis of SNW-1 and co-electrospinning of the SNW-1/PAN mixture. The three dimensional networks of electrospun nanofiber provide both low backpressure and rapid mass transfer in PT-SPE application, thus preventing the problems of high backpressure and leakage caused by directly packing SNW-1 into PT-SPE cartridge.
