Ketorolac vs Morphine for Severe Vaso-Occlusive Crisis in Sickle Cell Disease: An Open-Label Randomized Controlled Trial (KISS Study).

Objectives: To compare the efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) ketorolac and IV morphine in the management of severe vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) in children with sickle cell disease (SCD).

Method: An open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted from January 2021 to July 2022 wherein children with SCD aged 3 to 15 years, presenting with severe VOC (score > 6 on the Wong-Baker Faces Pain scale) were included. Block randomization with minimization was done and participants received either IV ketorolac (intervention) or IV morphine infusion (standard).

Evaluation of oral complications in children undergoing chemotherapy: An observational study.

Background: Chemotherapy, a cornerstone treatment for childhood cancers, can negatively impact oral health. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and evolution of oral complications in these patients.

Materials And Methods: A prospective observational study enrolled 44 children diagnosed with malignancy undergoing chemotherapy at a tertiary care institute in central India.

Unusual presentation of jejunal hemangioma on Tc-99m pertechnetate scan with single-photon emission computerized tomography-computed tomography.

Small bowel hemangioma is a rare benign tumor in the pediatric population. The usual presentation of these tumors is melena, anemia, or hematochezia. Our case demonstrates the usefulness of Meckel's/Tc-99m pertechnetate scan with single-photon emission computerized tomography/computerized tomography in diagnosing a vascular lesion in the small bowel in a child presenting with melena, unresponsive to medical management.

Auto-immune Thyroiditis in an Infant Masquerading as Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome.

A seven-months-old girl under treatment for pneumonia presented with generalized edema, decreased urinary output and was found to have hypertension, muco-cutaneous fungal infection and pulmonary hypertension. Investigations revealed that she had heavy proteinuria, hypertriglyceridemia, hypoalbuminemia and elevated levels of free T3 and T4 with suppression of TSH levels in the serum. A diagnosis of autoimmune thyroiditis (AT) in thyrotoxic phase was made on the basis of clinical presentation and presence of anti-TPO antibodies and reduced uptake in thyroid (technetium) scintigraphy.

Large Artery Stroke in a Child With Hypoparathyroidism.

The association of hypoparathyroidism and ischemic stroke is rare in childhood. We report an interesting case of an 11-year-old girl diagnosed to have hypoparathyroidism and presented with an acute-onset right hemiparesis. Investigations revealed large artery ischemic stroke and uncontrolled hypoparathyroidism.
