Recent advances in management of acute liver failure.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a life-threatening illness, where a previously normal liver fails within days to weeks. Sudden loss of synthetic and detoxification function of liver results in jaundice, encephalopathy, coagulopathy, and multiorgan failure. The etiology of ALF varies demographically.

Gastrointestinal complications in patients with chronic kidney disease--a 5-year retrospective study from a tertiary referral center.

Background: Gastrointestinal complications are frequent in patients with renal disease and are responsible for substantial morbidity and mortality among these patients in developing countries. Many times, these patients are subjected to endoscopic evaluation and mucosal biopsies are taken for definitive diagnosis. This study explores the various upper and lower nonneoplastic gastrointestinal complications in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the role of endoscopic mucosal biopsies in the management of these patients.

Chronic pancreatitis. A prospective nationwide study of 1,086 subjects from India.

Context: Chronic pancreatitis is common in India. However, its risk factors are not clear. There is sparse data on the current prevalence of tropical pancreatitis in India.
