Background And Aims: Dexamethasone has a powerful anti-inflammatory action with significant analgesic benefits. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of dexamethasone administered through intravenous (IV) and caudal route on post-operative analgesia in paediatric inguinal herniotomy patients.
Methods: One hundred and five paediatric patients undergoing inguinal herniotomy were included and divided into three groups.
An H-type rectourethal fistula was seen in a male child. The anus and anterior urethra were normal. The embryology and surgical management of this rare anomaly are discussed.

We describe two such children. The problems associated with the diagnosis and management of RDR are discussed to emphasize the need to have a high index of suspicion for this entity.
