It may be difficult to ascertain the relationship between a large intra-abdominal tumor and the adjacent organs if they are close together. In the current case, a definitive preoperative diagnosis of an exophytic colonic tumor was obtained by the demonstration of obtuse angles between the tumor and colon and by distinct recognition of the mucosa-submucosa of the colonic wall on computed tomography; the accuracy of this preoperative diagnosis was subsequently confirmed by pathologic findings.

We present a case of concurrent metastatic thymic carcinoma and postirradiation sarcoma in the same lobe of the lung in a woman who had received partial resection of thymic carcinoma with chemoradiotherapy 11 years ago. One tumor showed similar histology to the previous carcinoma. The other tumor was a pleomorphic sarcoma, suggestive of a postirradiation sarcoma.

Alopecia is an adverse effect in those patients taking aromatic anti-convulsant drugs but is rarely reported after discontinuing such medications in the convalescent status of anti-convulsant hypersensitivity syndrome (AHS). A 3-year-old boy developed alopecia areata (AA) universalis in the convalescent status of phenobarbital-induced AHS, compatible to the evidences of increased lymphocyte proliferation and increased dead cells percentages while his peripheral blood mononuclear cells were incubated with phenobarbital. Skin histology revealed peri-follicular, peri-bublar and supra-bublar lymphocyte infiltration.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is an intermediate-grade neoplasm with potential for recurrence and rare metastasis. Rearrangement of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene with variable fusion partners and anaplastic lymphoma kinase expression using immunohistochemistry are noted in about half of the tumors. We present a hepatic inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor from a 34-year-old man with an unusual rearrangement between the Ran binding protein 2 and anaplastic lymphoma kinase genes, as well as a peculiar round cell transformation of tumor cells and a unique nuclear membrane expression of anaplastic lymphoma kinase protein.
