This study evaluated the efficacy of various inorganic materials, biological control agents, organic agricultural materials (OAMs), and essential oils for controlling cucumber powdery mildew (CPM) under greenhouse conditions. Treatments included silicate, bicarbonate, copper sulfate, sulfurbased compounds, Bacillus subtilis KB-401, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens M27, Bordeaux mixtures, chitosan combined with oxidated copper salt, chitooligosaccharides, and essential oils such as castor and rapeseed oil with lecithin. Results demonstrated that Bordeaux mixtures, particularly Bordeaux Mixture I, and sulfur-based compounds provided the most reliable CPM control among inorganic materials.

The aberrant expression of specific long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been associated with cognitive and psychiatric disorders. Although a growing number of lncRNAs are now known to regulate neural cell development and function, relatively few lncRNAs have been shown to underlie animal behavior. Pnky is an evolutionarily conserved, neural lncRNA that regulates brain development.

Damage to the central nervous system (CNS) often leads to irreversible neurological deficits, and there are currently few effective treatments available. However, recent advancements in regenerative medicine have identified CNS organoids as promising therapeutic options for addressing CNS injuries. These organoids, composed of various neurons and supporting cells, have shown potential for direct repair at injury sites.

Since the emergence of the first cerebral organoid (CO) in 2013, advancements have transformed central nervous system (CNS) research. Initial efforts focused on studying the morphogenesis of COs and creating reproducible models. Numerous methodologies have been proposed, enabling the design of the brain organoid to represent specific regions and spinal cord structures.

Composites of reduced graphene oxides (rGOs) with transition metal dichalcogenides have garnered considerable attention as promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) because of their superior theoretical capacity and long-term stability compared with pure graphene. However, the underlying mechanism of how the oxygen functional groups improve the functionality of rGO remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the roles of functional groups in rGO-based heterogeneous bilayers using first-principles density functional theory calculations.

The human brain expresses thousands of different long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), and aberrant expression of specific lncRNAs has been associated with cognitive and psychiatric disorders. While a growing number of lncRNAs are now known to regulate neural cell development and function, relatively few have been shown to underlie animal behavior, particularly with genetic strategies that establish lncRNA function in . is an evolutionarily conserved, neural lncRNA that regulates brain development.

Background: The diminished executive control along with cue-reactivity has been suggested to play an important role in addiction. Hear rate variability (HRV), which is related to the autonomic nervous system, is a useful biomarker that can reflect cognitive-emotional responses to stimuli. In this study, Internet gaming disorder (IGD) subjects' autonomic response to gaming-related cues was evaluated by measuring HRV changes in exposure to gaming situation.

Background: Use of opioids for chronic intractable pain is increasing globally, and their proper use can improve patients' quality of life. In contrast, opioid use disorders, such as abuse or addiction, caused by prescribing opioids, are a worldwide issue. This study aimed to understand current opioid prescribing patterns and pain physicians' experiences with opioid use in South Korea.

Environmental damage from serious nuclear accidents should be urgently restored, which needs the removal of radioactive species. Radioactive iodine isotopes are particularly problematic for human health because they are released in large amounts and retain radioactivity for a substantial time. Herein, we prepare platinum-coated iron nanoparticles (Fe@Pt) as a highly selective and reusable adsorbent for iodine species, i.

The modulating of the geometric and electronic structures of metal-N-C atomic catalysts for improving their performance in catalyzing oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs) is highly desirable yet challenging. We herein report a delicate "encapsulation-substitution" strategy for the synthesis of paired metal sites in N-doped carbon. With the regulation of the -orbital energy level, a significant increment in oxygen electroreduction activity was demonstrated in Ru-Co diatomic catalyst (DAC) compared with other diatomic (Ru-Fe and Ru-Ni) and single-atomic counterparts.

Herpes zoster (HZ) is caused by reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus (VZV) when VZV-specific cellular immunity is insufficient to control reactivation. Currently, Shingrix, which contains the VZV gE protein and GSK's AS01 adjuvant composed of liposomes formulated with cholesterol, monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) and QS21, is used for prevention of HZ. However, reactogenicity to Shingrix is common leading to poor patient compliance in receiving one or both shots.

Article Synopsis
  • - Metastable phases, which are temporarily stable structures formed under certain conditions, are commonly found in nature and can have better properties than their stable counterparts, making them valuable in materials science.
  • - Crystals often start as metastable phases influenced by factors like temperature and pressure, and they typically transition to more stable forms as they grow over time.
  • - A new approach for discovering metastable materials involves rational design rather than relying on intuition, as demonstrated by the creation of a unique metastable hexagonal close-packed palladium hydride (PdH) through precise control of precursor concentrations.

Nuclear compartments are thought to play a role in three-dimensional genome organization and gene expression. In mammalian brain, the architecture and dynamics of nuclear compartment-associated genome organization is not known. In this study, we developed Genome Organization using CUT and RUN Technology (GO-CaRT) to map genomic interactions with two nuclear compartments-the nuclear lamina and nuclear speckles-from different regions of the developing mouse, macaque and human brain.

Article Synopsis
  • Machine-learning (ML) techniques are becoming popular for predicting material properties and enabling high-throughput screening, particularly using ML force fields (FFs) that match quantum mechanical accuracy.
  • The development of ML-FFs for polymers, like polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), is challenging due to the complex arrangement of atoms, but this study presents an effective approach using kernel functions and Gaussian processes.
  • The results show that even with training data from short PTFE chains, the ML-FF accurately predicts properties of longer chains and effectively describes various physical characteristics of PTFE when combined with molecular dynamics simulations.

Morphine is widely used in pain management although the risk of side effects is significant. The use of biased agonists to the G protein of μ-opioid receptors has been suggested as a potential solution, although oliceridine and PZM21 have previously failed to demonstrate benefits in clinical studies. An amplification-induced confusion in the process of comparing G protein and beta-arrestin pathways may account for previously biased agonist misidentification.

Among the large, diverse set of mammalian long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), long noncoding primary microRNAs (lnc-pri-miRNAs) are those that host miRNAs. Whether lnc-pri-miRNA loci have important biological function independent of their cognate miRNAs is poorly understood. From a genome-scale lncRNA screen, lnc-pri-miRNA loci were enriched for function in cell proliferation, and in glioblastoma (i.

Quorum sensing (QS) enables bacteria to organize gene expression programs, thereby coordinating collective behaviors. It involves the production, release, and population-wide detection of extracellular signaling molecules. The cellular processes regulated by QS in bacteria are diverse and may be used in mutualistic coordination or in response to changing environmental conditions.

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a point of convergence for numerous oncogenic signals that are often constitutively activated in many cancerous or transformed cells and some stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment. Persistent STAT3 activation in malignant cells stimulates proliferation, survival, angiogenesis, invasion, and tumor-promoting inflammation. STAT3 undergoes activation through phosphorylation on tyrosine 705, which facilitates its dimerization.
