Article Synopsis
  • Scientists did experiments in a muddy area by a river in Hiroshima, Japan, to see if special piles made of holes could help clean the mud and support more living things.
  • They found that after placing the piles in the mud, the water around them had more oxygen because the piles helped water flow better.
  • The extra oxygen helped reduce harmful ammonia levels and allowed more tiny creatures to thrive near the piles, proving that these porous piles are good for improving muddy tidal flats.

Edaravone is a neuroprotective agent with a potent free radical scavenging and antioxidant actions. In the present study we investigated the influence of edaravone on cisplatin ototoxicity in auditory cells. Cell viability was determined using a 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide cell proliferation assay.

Alkalin-reduced water (ARW) is known to exert several anti-cancer effects, as well as to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduce blood-glucose levels. This study was performed in order to determine the effects of ARW on the control of spontaneous diabetes in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats. We assigned 16 male OLETF rats (4 wk) to two groups: an experimental group, which was given ARW, and a control group, which received laboratory tap water.
