Although autogenous bone grafts are an optimal filling material for the induced membrane technique, limited availability and complications at the harvest site have created a need for alternative graft materials. We aimed to investigate the effect of an rhBMP-2-coated, 3D-printed, macro/microporous CaO-SiO -P O -B O bioactive ceramic scaffold in the treatment of critical femoral bone defects in rabbits using the induced membrane technique. A 15-mm segmental bone defect was made in the metadiaphyseal area of the distal femur of 14 rabbits.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of custom 3D printed BGS-7 implants for reconstructing zygomatic bone defects, focusing on outcomes at a 6-month follow-up.
  • A total of eight patients participated, and results showed a 100% bone fusion rate on CT scans, with an average fusion rate of 76.97% for all implants, and zero cases of osteolysis.
  • Patient satisfaction was high, with an average score of 9 on a visual analog scale, indicating that patients were both aesthetically and functionally pleased with the surgical outcomes.

For more than 40 years, most astrophysical observations and laboratory studies of two key soft x-ray diagnostic 2p-3d transitions, 3C and 3D, in Fe XVII ions found oscillator strength ratios f(3C)/f(3D) disagreeing with theory, but uncertainties had precluded definitive statements on this much studied conundrum. Here, we resonantly excite these lines using synchrotron radiation at PETRA III, and reach, at a millionfold lower photon intensities, a 10 times higher spectral resolution, and 3 times smaller uncertainty than earlier work. Our final result of f(3C)/f(3D)=3.

We evaluated the effectiveness of rhamnogalacturonan II (RG-II)-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) vaccination on the induction of antitumor immunity in a mouse lymphoma model using EG7-lymphoma cells expressing ovalbumin (OVA). BMDCs treated with RG-II had an activated phenotype. RG-II induced interleukin (IL)-12, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) production during dendritic cell (DC) maturation.

Apigenin, a dietary plant-flavonoid has shown anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, however the molecular basis of this effect remains to be elucidated. Thus we elucidated to anti-allergic effect of apigenin in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma model mice. The OVA-induced mice showed allergic airway reactions.
