Article Synopsis
- Intraoperative opioids can lead to opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH), an increased pain response, potentially involving NMDA receptors; this study investigates the effects of nefopam and ketamine on postoperative pain and OIH in patients receiving remifentanil during surgery.
- A total of 54 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy were divided into three groups: one receiving nefopam, one receiving ketamine, and a control group with standard anesthetics, with postoperative pain and sedation levels measured.
- Results showed that both nefopam and ketamine reduced the need for intraoperative and postoperative opioids, but nefopam was more effective in managing pain and sedation than ketamine.
