Do hospital data breaches affect health information technology investment?

Objectives: Data breaches are a financial and operational threat to hospitals. In this study, we examine the association between a data breach and information technology capital and labor investment.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we used American Hospital Association data from 2017 to 2019 and an unbalanced panel of hospitals with 6751 unique hospital-year observations.

Impact of Korean Military Service on the Prevalence of Steatotic Liver Disease: A Longitudinal Study of Pre-enlistment and In-Service Health Check-Ups.

Background/aims: Young Korean men are obligated to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months. We investigated the effects of military service on steatotic liver disease (SLD) and other metabolic parameters.

Methods: Pre-enlistment health check-up performed from 2019 to 2022 and in-service health check-up performed from 2020 to 2022 were merged as paired data.

Metatarsal sliding osteotomy is effective without altering plantar pressure in Morton's neuroma: Retrospective case series.

Background: Various operative methods for the treatment of Morton's neuroma have been discussed, and osteotomy of the metatarsal bone has been reported recently. However, there has been no report of pedobarographic changes after metatarsal osteotomy. Pedobarographic changes of other metatarsal area after the surgery may cause transfer metatarsalgia, and thorough analysis of the pedobarographic data should be performed peri-operatively.

Objective: Widespread electronic health information exchange (HIE) across hospitals remains an important policy goal for reducing costs and improving the quality of care. Meanwhile, cybersecurity incidents are a growing threat to hospitals. The relationship between the electronic sharing of health information and cybersecurity incidents is not well understood.

Effectiveness of paraffin bath therapy for the symptoms and function of hand diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: Paraffin bath therapy is noninvasive and is widely used in various hand diseases. Paraffin bath therapy is easy to use, has fewer side effects, and can be applied to various diseases with different etiologies. However, there are few large-scale studies of paraffin bath therapy, and there is insufficient evidence of its efficacy.

Intra-Articular Injection of Rebamipide-Loaded Nanoparticles Attenuate Disease Progression and Joint Destruction in Osteoarthritis Rat Model: A Pilot Study.

Objective: Rebamipide has antioxidant effects and is a drug with a local rather than systemic mechanism of action. Oxidative stress and inflammation in chondrocytes are the major factors contributing to the development and progression of osteoarthritis (OA). Since OA is mainly developed in weight bearing or overused joints, the locally sustained therapy is effective for targeting inflammatory component of OA.

KOBIO, the First Web-based Korean Biologics Registry Operated With a Unified Platform Among Distinct Disease Entities.

The KOrean College of Rheumatology BIOlogics and targeted therapy (KOBIO) registry is a nationwide observational cohort that captures detailed data on exposure of patients to biologic and targeted synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs). This registry was launched in December 2012 with an aim to prospectively investigate clinical manifestations and outcomes of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis who initiated a biologic or targeted synthetic DMARD or switched to another. Demographic data, disease activity, current treatment, adverse events, terms based on Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities, and so on are registered for patients who are then followed up annually in a web-based unified platform.

The relationship between cybersecurity ratings and the risk of hospital data breaches.

Objective: We investigated the progression of healthcare cybersecurity over 2014-2019 as measured by external risk ratings. We further examined the relationship between hospital data breaches and cybersecurity ratings.

Materials And Methods: Using Fortune 1000 firms as a benchmark, time trends in hospital cybersecurity ratings were compared using linear regression.

Background: Tapering or stopping biological disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs has been proposed for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in remission, but it frequently results in high rates of recurrence. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus (TAC) as maintenance therapy in patients with established RA in remission after receiving combination therapy with tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) and methotrexate (MTX).

Methods: This 24-week, prospective, open-label trial included patients who received TNFi and MTX at stable doses for ≥24 weeks and had low disease activity (LDA), measured by Disease Activity Score-28 for ≥12 weeks.

Prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A cross-sectional study.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are both chronic inflammatory diseases; the prevalence of COPD in RA patients is known to be high. However, the prevalence of both RA and COPD differs according to sex; the relationship between RA and COPD may also vary according to sex. Therefore, we investigated the prevalence of COPD and its association in patients with RA in Korea by sex.

A Real-World Experience of Mycophenolate Mofetil for Systemic Sclerosis: A Retrospective Multicenter Observational Study.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) on lung function and skin thickness in Korean patients with systemic sclerosis-interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) in a real-world setting.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective, medical chart-based study was performed at four centers in South Korea and included 34 patients (2 males, 32 females; median age 50.5 years; range, 25 to 72 years) with SSc-ILD.

A comparative pilot study of oral diacerein and locally treated diacerein-loaded nanoparticles in a model of osteoarthritis.

Diacerein (DIA) is a slow-acting drug for osteoarthritis (OA). Oral DIA administration, however, exerts side effects including diarrhea and urine discoloration. We fabricated DIA-loaded poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles (DIA/PLGA NPs) that allow sustained release of DIA.

Correlation between TM joint disease and rheumatic diseases detected on bone scintigraphy and clinical factors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rheumatic disease as a risk factor for temporomandibular disease (TMD). A total of 143 outpatients reporting symptoms indicating rheumatic disease at their first visit to the rheumatology clinic were included. We evaluated the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with scintigraphic images, and standard questionnaires were administered for the symptomatic assessment for all patients.

The associations between interleukin 10 polymorphisms and susceptibility to autoimmune uveitis - a meta-analysis.

Autoimmune uveitis is an ocular inflammatory disease that is associated with genetic factors. Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is an immune-regulatory cytokine of autoimmune diseases. IL-10 is considered a candidate gene for uveitis.

Clinical Findings of Ankylosing Spondylitis With and Without Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)-B27 and HLA-B51.

Introduction: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and Behçet's disease are known to be associated with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B27 and HLA-B51 genes, respectively. However, many of their clinical findings-including articular and extra-articular symptoms-are similar, making diagnosis a challenge in the early stage of the disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in clinical findings of AS patients with and without the HLA-B27 gene.

Relationship between coffee consumption and serum uric acid level in the general Korean population: A nationwide cross-sectional study.

Objective: Coffee is one of the world's most consumed beverages, and its consumption is increasing. Serum uric acid levels are affected by dietary factors, and increased levels can cause a variety of diseases, including gout. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between coffee consumption and serum uric acid levels in the general Korean population.

Association between interleukin-1, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha polymorphisms and juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a meta-analysis.

Introduction: In juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) are associated with development and progression of JIA. We investigated whether IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α polymorphisms were associated with susceptibility to JIA.

Evidence Acquisition: A meta-analysis was conducted on the associations between IL-1α-899 C/T, IL-1β-511 C/T, IL-6-174 G/C, and TNF-α-308 G/A and -238 G/A polymorphisms, and JIA (PubMed and Embase).

Data breach remediation efforts and their implications for hospital quality.

Objective: To estimate the relationship between breach remediation efforts and hospital care quality.

Data Sources: Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) public database on hospital data breaches and Medicare Compare's public data on hospital quality measures for 2012-2016.

Materials And Methods: Data breach data were merged with the Medicare Compare data for years 2012-2016, yielding a panel of 3025 hospitals with 14 297 unique hospital-year observations.

Objective: There is a lack of standardisation in the terminology used to describe gout. The aim of this project was to develop a consensus statement describing the recommended nomenclature for disease states of gout.

Methods: A content analysis of gout-related articles from rheumatology and general internal medicine journals published over a 5-year period identified potential disease states and the labels commonly assigned to them.
