Here, we showed that ablation of the heparan sulfate (HS) polymerase Ext1 in retinal progenitor cells did not affect initial progression of retinal angiogenesis, but it disrupted the pruning of blood vessels and establishment of arterioles and venules. In the absence of retinal HS, blood vessels were also vulnerable to high oxygen tension in early postnatal stages, which could be rescued by exogenous vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), consistent with the role of retinal HS in the fine-tuning of VEGF signaling.

Methods: EMRs from January 2013 to December 2016 were mapped onto the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership-CDM (OMOP-CDM) schema. Vocabulary mappings were applied to convert source data values into OMOP-CDM-endorsed terminologies.
Purpose/objective: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to devastating economic impacts and psychosocial changes for individuals around the world, including people with chronic illness and disabilities (CID). This study explored the impacts on employment and how it related to stress and satisfaction with life during COVID-19 between people with and without CID.
Research Method/design: A cross-sectional study design was used with 1,380 adults from 20 countries who were employed before the COVID-19 pandemic, including 318 people with CID.
Beyond-diffraction-limit optical absorption spectroscopy provides in-depth information on the graded band structures of composition-spread and stacked two-dimensional materials, in which direct/indirect bandgap, interlayer coupling, and defects significantly modify their optoelectronic functionalities such as photoluminescence efficiency. We here visualize the spatially varying band structure of monolayer and bilayer transition metal dichalcogenide alloys by using near-field broadband absorption microscopy. The near-field spectral and spatial information manifests the excitonic band shift that results from the interplay of composition spreading and interlayer coupling.

Lymphedema is characterized by progressive and chronic tissue swelling and inflammation from local accumulation of interstitial fluid due to lymphatic injury or dysfunction. The study aimed to investigate the potential risk factors for hospital admission in patients returning to the ED within 72 hours with a final diagnosis of infectious diseases.

Here, we use near-field photoluminescence (NF-PL) to reveal the narrowest region (105 nm) ever reported of photoluminescence quenching at the junction of a laterally stitched WS/MoS monolayer.
