Monensin is an ionophore antibiotic that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The aim of this study was to investigate the apoptosis-mediated anticarcinogenic effects of monensin in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells. The effects of monensin on cell viability, invasion, migration, and colony formation were determined by XTT, matrigel-chamber, wound healing, and colony formation tests, respectively.

Neuroblastoma is the most common pediatric solid tumor originating from the neural crest. New treatment options are needed to improve treatment outcomes and the survival of patients with neuroblastoma. Monensin is an ionophore antibiotic with antiparasitic, antibacterial, and anticancer properties isolated from .

Background: Erianin is an active dibenzyl compound isolated from Dendrobium officinale and Dendrobium chrysotoxum and there are very few studies on molecular mechanisms and drug targets of erianin. In addition, there is no study investigating the anti-cancer effect of erianin on neuroblastoma cells.

Objective: The aim of the study is to investigate the anticancer effect of erianin and the underlying mechanism of this effect on SH-SY5Y cells.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is a neurological complication that frequently occurs during chemotherapeutic intervention, resulting in damaged myelin sheath, motor weakness and/or sensory impairment. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic efficiency of low-intensity pulsed low-frequency ultrasound on cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy. Rats were randomly divided into five experimental groups as control, cisplatin administration, 10 mg/kg melatonin treatment after cisplatin administration, 1 MHz frequency 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Acute lung injury (ALI) is a serious condition in intensive care, often studied using a model that involves lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to simulate lung damage, where this study examines the effects of treatments like tocilizumab, adalimumab, and methylprednisolone on LPS-induced ALI.
  • In this study, rats were given LPS to induce lung injury and then received different treatment regimens; histological and immunological analyses showed that both adalimumab and the combination of adalimumab and tocilizumab significantly improved lung structure and reduced inflammation markers compared to those treated with steroids alone.
  • The results indicate that adalimumab and/or tocilizumab are

Increases in the risk of infections and malignancy due to immune suppressive therapies of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have led the researchers to focus on more nontoxic and acceptable natural products like curcumin. Here we investigate whether prophylactic and therapeutic application of the curcumin alters the enzyme activities of paraoxonase (PON), carbonic anhydrase (CA), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and cytosolic β-glucosidase in dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis mice. Prophylactic application of curcumin resulted in higher MPO activity, less body weight loss and longer colon lengths compared to therapeutic group indicating preventive role of curcumin in IBDs.

Background: The aim of the present study was to examine the protective effect of curcumin (CUR) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced nephrotoxicity to evaluate the detailed mechanisms by which CUR exerts its protective action.

Methods: Thirty male Wistar-Albino rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into three groups: administrations of olive oil (control, po), CCl4 (0.5mg/kg in olive oil sc) every other day for 3 weeks, and CCl4 (0.

Total numbers of neurons, oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and microglia in the basal ganglia and red nucleus were estimated in brains from 11 patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA) and 11 age- and gender-matched control subjects with unbiased stereological methods. Compared to the control subjects, the MSA patients had a substantially lower number of neurons in the substantia nigra (p=0.001), putamen (p=0.

Background & Objectives: Intra-articular (ia) injections of local anaesthetics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) are simple and efficient to ensure post-operative analgesia but some of these have toxic effects on the synovium and cartilage. Dexketoprofen is recently introduced S-enantiomer of ketoprofen with a better analgesic and side effect profile. This study was done to evaluate the possible toxic effects of dexketoprofen trometamol on knee joint cartilage and symovium in vitro and in vivo.

Modified gold impregnation is one of the methods that are used in light microscopical demonstration of hepatic perisinusoidal cells. This method has some disadvantages, such as restriction of fixation time to 16 h, which allows limited time for processing the tissues, especially when dealing with a large amount of material, and a long impregnation time (16-24 h). We investigated the effect of prolonged fixation on the staining of sections, to shorten the time needed for gold impregnation by using microwave irradiation.
