Although studies have assessed the associations of maternal exposure to ozone (O) during pregnancy with blood pressure and the risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), the results were inconsistent. Furthermore, no studies have been conducted in China where the ambient O concentration continuedly increased. The present study aimed to estimate the effects of maternal exposure to O during pregnancy on the HDP risk, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and pulse pressure (PP).

Aberrant TGF-β signaling in conjunction with transdifferentiation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) into fibrogenic myofibroblasts plays a central role in liver fibrosis. Here we report that the DNA demethylase TET3 is anomalously upregulated in fibrotic livers in both humans and mice.

To our knowledge, there were no studies on the association of genetic variants with DR in Chinese Hui nationality. In our research, 34 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that were reported to be associated with DR in other ethnics were genotyped in 123 subjects with DR and 12 subjects without DR among Chinese Hui population using MassARRAY system.

HNF4α functions to stimulate transcription of key gluconeogenic genes. HNF4α harbors two promoters (P2 and P1) thought to be primarily active in fetal and adult livers, respectively.

Summary Answer: Elevated serum fructose levels are associated with PCOS in Chinese Han women with overweight/obesity and hyperinsulinemia, and fructose levels are higher in follicular fluids from PCOS patients than from control subjects.
What Is Known Already: Both fructose levels and PCOS are closely linked to obesity and insulin resistance. However, the relationship between fructose and PCOS remains largely unknown.

Background: There is an emerging concept that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in tumorigenesis and could be used as biomarkers. However, the clinical significance of human translational regulatory lncRNA (treRNA) in CRC is largely unknown. The purpose of the study was to examine the value of treRNA as a biomarker in colorectal cancer patients.

Methods: A total of 60 patients with intestinal dysfunction of SCI were randomized into a comprehensive therapy group and a rehabilitation group, 30 cases in each one (3 cases were dropped out in each group). On the base of the routine western medicine treatment and rehabilitation training, the bowel training and rectal function training were provided, once a day in the rehabilitation group.
Huntington's Disease (HD) is a monogenetic neurodegenerative disorder mainly caused by the cytotoxicity of the mutant HTT protein (mHTT) encoded by the mutant gene. Lowering mRNA has been extensively studied as a potential therapeutic strategy, but how its level is regulated endogenously has been unclear. Here we report that the RNA-binding protein (RBP) HuR interacts with and stabilizes mRNA in an mHTT-dependent manner.

However, the regulatory mechanism of lncRNAs in the tumorigenesis of colorectal cancer remains poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the potential role of lncRNA HCG18 in colorectal cancer.

This study put forward the advanced nutrient removal with the regulation of effluent N/P as the core in order to restrain the eutrophication and growth of poisonous algae. According to the preliminary study and review, the optimal N/P for non-toxic green algae was 50:1.

Highly active catalysts from the earth-abundant metals are essential to materialize the low-cost production of hydrogen through water splitting. Herein, nickel porous networks codoped with Cu and Fe prepared by thermal reduction of presynthesized Cu, Fe-codoped Ni(OH) nanowires are reported. The sample consists of nanoparticles of ∼80 nm, which form highly porous network clusters of ∼1 μm with a pore size of 10-100 nm.

Here, we show that OxPLs accumulate in human and mouse NASH. Using a transgenic mouse that expresses a functional single-chain variable fragment of E06, a natural antibody that neutralizes OxPLs, we demonstrate the causal role of OxPLs in NASH.

Although previous studies suggested that environmental factors were important causes of miscarriage, evidence is still inadequate. Here, we examined the association of maternal exposure to temperature with the risk of miscarriage and further assessed the modifying effects of surrounding residential greenness.

Recent reports have highlighted the role of monosaccharide biosynthesis in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), suggesting that these processes may serve as a biomarker in PCOS. Mannose is the main monosaccharide for protein glycosylation in mammals; however, the correlation between mannose and PCOS remains largely unknown. A total of 132 Chinese Han women were recruited at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccumulation of mutant proteins is a major cause of many diseases (collectively called proteopathies), and lowering the level of these proteins can be useful for treatment of these diseases. We hypothesized that compounds that interact with both the autophagosome protein microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B light chain 3 (LC3) and the disease-causing protein may target the latter for autophagic clearance. Mutant huntingtin protein (mHTT) contains an expanded polyglutamine (polyQ) tract and causes Huntington's disease, an incurable neurodegenerative disorder.

A simple quaternization modification enabled the coating simultaneously to achieve excellent antifogging and antibacterial functions. The excellent antifogging property of the HACC/PVA composite coating was attributed to the strong water absorbency of quaternary ammonium chitosan and PVA.

Transition-metal-doped tungsten semicarbide nanosheets (M-doped WC NSs, M=Fe, Co, and Ni) have been synthesized through carburization of the mixture of tungsten trioxide, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and metal dopant. The nanosheets grow directly on the W mesh and have the lateral dimension of several hundreds of nm to a few m with a thickness of few tens nm. It is demonstrated that the M-doped WC NSs exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).
