Background: Pulmonary regurgitation following right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) reconstruction may cause right heart dysfunction and even right heart failure. Installation of a single valve at this time point can effectively reduce pulmonary regurgitation, thereby protecting right heart function. Here, we analyzed the outcomes and mid- and long-term follow-up data of patients undergoing single-valved bovine pericardium patch (svBPP) placement for reconstruction and explored the effectiveness and gaps of svBPP in preventing right heart failure.

Oligodendrocyte apoptosis mediated demyelination is a pathological change characteristic of compressed spinal cord injury (CSCI). However, the mechanism of demyelination due to oligodendrocyte apoptosis is not known. In this study, after successfully establishing a rat CSCI model using a custom-made compressor, we investigated the pathological changes, MBP expression, as well as apoptosis-related protein (p53, active caspase-3) expression to determine whether or not apoptosis and demyelination occurred after injury.

The proliferation of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells following epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT) is critical in proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), which results in retinal detachment and the loss of vision. The current study was conducted to examine the importance of transforming growth factor β‑1 (TGF‑β1)‑activated kinase 1 (TAK1) inhibitor (LYTAK1) in regulating EMT and the proliferation of RPE cells. Aquaporin 9 (AQP9), an aquaglyceroporin, is an important aquaporin in the brain. This study examined the expression patterns of AQP9 and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) in ischaemic brains from rats with permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) to elucidate the function and regulation of AQP9 after ischaemia.
