Abnormal trinucleotide CAG repeat expansions in exon 1 of the Androgen Receptor (AR) gene has been identified as the cause of Kennedy disease (KD). We generated and characterized a human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of a patient with genetically confirmed KD. The pluripotency of these iPSCs was verified by the expression of several pluripotency markers at both RNA and protein levels, as well as their capability to differentiate into all three germ layers.

The surge of lateral flow immunoassays (LFAs) stimulates researchers to explore the novel vibrant aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen)-doped nanoparticles to improve the accuracy and reliability of LFAs. However, the loading amount of AIEgens currently used for the LFA in microspheres is limited due to their symmetrical large conjugated skeleton structure, which significantly reduces the fluorescence brightness of the signal reporter in the LFA. Polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) hydrogels provide a promising strategy to develop a class of physically cross-linked networks characterized by exceptional toughness and self-healing properties. However, the precise control of the microstructure and the enhancement of mechanical properties still pose challenges in the field of PEC hydrogels. Herein, we propose a strategy to manipulate the structure of PEC with competitively charged surfactant micelles, leveraging the spatially confined surface charge and excluded volume effects to overcome coacervation issues associated with the PEC, thus achieving a simple one-step preparation of macroscopically uniform and tough PEC hydrogels.

The aim of this study was to compare the immune responses of C57BL/6 mice immunized with two pathogens, foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) and Senecavirus A (SVA), and to provide clues for revealing the regulatory mechanisms of acquired immunity. Inactivated and purified FMDV and SVA antigens were used to immunize C57BL/6 mice respectively, and the mice immunized with PBS were taken as the control. The percentages of Th1 and Th2 cells in the spleen lymphocytes of mice in each group were analyzed by flow cytometry at 14 and 28 days after immunization.

Cholesterol (Cho) is commonly used to stabilize nanoliposomes; however, there is controversy on the relationship between Cho and health. In this study, we developed a novel multifunctional nanoliposome utilizing structurally similar sitogluside (SG) and dioscin (Dio) instead of Cho to anchor the phospholipid bilayer and synergistically modulate the membrane properties of the nanoliposome (DPPC or DOPC). The storage and gastrointestinal tract stability experiment demonstrated that the changes of physical and chemical properties, including the significantly reduced size and Dio retention rate of nanoliposomes synergistically modulated by SG and Dio compared to those of SG alone, regulated nanoliposomes.

This research endeavored to engineer robust delivery matrices for bioactives, specifically benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), by harnessing the synergistic covalent and non-covalent interactions between fish skin gelatin (FSG) and proanthocyanidins (PC) to synthesize novel composite emulsions. The objective was to delineate the influence of these molecular interactions on the emulsion's structural integrity and stability, which are pivotal for the efficacious encapsulation and controlled release of BITC. Employing a suite of analytical techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), fluorescence spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements, the study delineated the predominant molecular forces at play within the FSG-PC complex, identifying electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions as the cornerstones of this interaction.
