Background: Currently, there is no clear standard for the surgical options for Evans-Jensen Type IV intertrochanteric femur fractures in elderly patients over 65 years old. This study aims to retrospectively analyze and compare the early postoperative limb function and quality of life of patients treated with total hip arthroplasty (THA) and proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) for this type of fracture. We hypothesize that there is no significant difference in complications and postoperative recovery between the two surgical methods.

The metabolic landscape of cancer greatly influences antitumor immunity, yet it remains unclear how organ-specific metabolites in the tumor microenvironment influence immunosurveillance. We found that accumulation of primary conjugated and secondary bile acids (BAs) are metabolic features of human hepatocellular carcinoma and experimental liver cancer models. Inhibiting conjugated BA synthesis in hepatocytes through deletion of the BA-conjugating enzyme bile acid-CoA:amino acid -acyltransferase (BAAT) enhanced tumor-specific T cell responses, reduced tumor growth, and sensitized tumors to anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (anti-PD-1) immunotherapy.

The combined microbial-plant remediation has increasingly been used to remediate heavy metal-contaminated soil. Some microorganisms could enhance phytoremediation efficiency by solubilizing heavy metal and improve plant growth by producing phytohormones in the heavy metal contaminated soils. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are a heterogenous population of myeloid cells that dictate the inflammatory tone of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Cytochrome b5 (CYB5) is a hemoprotein crucial for electron transfer to oxygenases. Although microsomal CYB5A is required for sterol C4-demethylation in vitro, cholesterol biosynthesis remains intact in Cyb5a knockout mice. Here, we show that knockout of mitochondrial CYB5B, rather than CYB5A, blocks cholesterol biosynthesis at the sterol-C4 oxidation step in HeLa cells, causing an accumulation of testis meiosis-activating sterol (T-MAS) and dihydro-T-MAS.
