In mammals, 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2)-deposited histone 3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) are generally mutually exclusive at CpG-rich regions. As mouse embryonic stem cells exit the naive pluripotent state, there is massive gain of 5mC concomitantly with restriction of broad H3K27me3 to 5mC-free, CpG-rich regions. To formally assess how 5mC shapes the H3K27me3 landscape, we profiled the epigenome of naive and differentiated cells in the presence and absence of the DNA methylation machinery.

Laryngeal papillomatosis (LP) is the most common benign laryngeal tumor in children, but it can affect both children and adults. Although benign, this condition still remains hard to treat and negatively affects patient quality of life as it can spread to the adjacent respiratory tract, recurs, and requires repeated medical intervention. As the surgical removal of papillomas with the preservation of normal mucosa is the only standard of care, there is still no standard for adjuvant therapy.

As people age, they tend to spend more time indoors, and the colours in their surroundings may significantly impact their mood and overall well-being. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence to provide informed guidance on colour choices, irrespective of age group. To work towards informed choices, we investigated whether the associations between colours and emotions observed in younger individuals also apply to older adults.

Human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) contains two genes (U12 and U51) that encode putative homologues of human G-protein-coupled receptors like CCR1, CCR3, and CCR5. It has been shown that these viral proteins can be expressed on the surface of epithelial and some peripheral blood mononuclear cells, suggesting that they could potentially induce autoimmunity. We aimed to investigate the possibility of HHV-6 encoded viral chemokine receptors (U12 and U51) involvement in autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) development by detecting viral peptide specific antibodies in AIT patient samples.

We performed a correlation analysis of the morphometry of mesenteric lymph nodes and cytokines of the thoracic duct lymph in chemically induced breast cancer (BC) and after surgical treatment of BC and neoadjuvant chemotherapy for BC according to the CMF scheme. After surgical treatment, correlations were found between the level of cytokines in the thoracic duct lymph and morphological changes in the mesenteric lymph nodes. The observed correlations can be a result of total resection of the tumor and increased immunomodulatory and antitumor action of cytokines.

Many of us "see red," "feel blue," or "turn green with envy." Are such color-emotion associations fundamental to our shared cognitive architecture, or are they cultural creations learned through our languages and traditions? To answer these questions, we tested emotional associations of colors in 4,598 participants from 30 nations speaking 22 native languages. Participants associated 20 emotion concepts with 12 color terms.

For millennia, the Pontic-Caspian steppe was a connector between the Eurasian steppe and Europe. In this scene, multidirectional and sequential movements of different populations may have occurred, including those of the Eurasian steppe nomads. We sequenced 35 genomes (low to medium coverage) of Bronze Age individuals (Srubnaya-Alakulskaya) and Iron Age nomads (Cimmerians, Scythians, and Sarmatians) that represent four distinct cultural entities corresponding to the chronological sequence of cultural complexes in the region.

Background: Human papillomavirus type 18 is the second most common cause of cervical cancer and is found in 7 to 20 % of cases of cervical cancer. The oncogenic potential of high-risk human papillomavirus is associated with expression of early proteins E6 and E7. Due to long-term immunosuppressive therapy, renal transplant recipients have a higher risk of developing persistent human papillomavirus infection.
