Background: Manual fetal stimulation, either by mechanical manipulation or by stimulation of the fetal scalp, is known to evoke a fetal heart response in a normal fetus.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness of manual fetal stimulation in the assessment of fetal well-being during labor vs no stimulation among women with a singleton pregnancy and to investigate the maternal and neonatal outcomes in the 2 groups.
Study Design: This was a randomized controlled trial conducted in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at a tertiary care teaching hospital between 2014 and 2016.

Reflex anuria is a rare cause of acute renal failure, which may occur following ureteric manipulation or painful stimuli to adjacent organs during pelvic surgery. This condition, relatively unfamiliar to the general gynecologist, should be considered even when no obvious cause of anatomical obstruction is found. We present a case of reflex anuria in a 28-year-old woman for two large intramural fibroids.

Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted at a tertiary care teaching hospital. Seventy women diagnosed as GDM at 24-28 weeks of gestation, controlled on a diabetic diet, were randomized to receive either vitamin D 1000 IU and calcium 1000 mg (group A, n = 34) or vitamin D 250 IU and calcium 500 mg (group B, n = 36) daily for 6 weeks.
Binding of HIV-1 capsid (CA) to cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor 6 (CPSF6) is hypothesized to provide a significant fitness advantage to viral replication, explaining why CA-CPSF6 interactions are strictly conserved in primate lentiviruses. We recently identified a Q4R mutation in CA after propagation of an interferon (IFN)-β-hypersensitive CA mutant, RGDA/Q112D (H87R, A88G, P90D, P93A and Q112D) virus, in IFN-β-treated cells. The Q4R substitution conferred significant IFN-β resistance to the RGDA/Q112D virus by affecting several properties of the virus, including the sensitivity to myxovirus resistance protein B (MxB), the kinetics of reverse transcription, and the initiation of uncoating.

Methods: We conducted a mixed-method process evaluation to understand the successes and challenges in implementation of the MRC. We reviewed documents for the MRC and the immunization programme in Bangladesh; observed meetings, vaccination sessions, and health facilities; and conducted 58 key informant interviews, 574 exit interviews with caregivers and 156 brief surveys with stakeholders involved in immunization.
TRIM5α and MxB are known as restriction factors that inhibit the early step of intracellular HIV-1 replication cycle. Both factors are believed to interact with the incoming virus core to suppress HIV-1 infection. The extreme diversity of HIV-1 is thought to be a consequence of its propensity to mutate to escape immune responses and host restriction factors.

Methods: We collected clinical and exposure history of the case patients and monitored persons coming within 1 m of a case patient during their infectious period. Nasopharyngeal wash specimens from case patients and contacts were tested with real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction, and virus culture and isolates were characterized.
Objective: To compare the maternal and perinatal outcomes in women with GDM diagnosed by Carpenter & Coustan (CC) criteria and by the International Association of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) criteria.
Methodology: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted using data of women who were screened and diagnosed with GDM between April 2006-March 2007 using the CC criteria and April 2013-March 2014 using IADPSG criteria. Maternal and perinatal outcomes were noted.
Old World monkey TRIM5α strongly suppresses human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) replication. A fusion protein comprising cynomolgus macaque (CM) TRIM5 and cyclophilin A (CM TRIMCyp) also potently suppresses HIV-1 replication. However, CM TRIMCyp fails to suppress a mutant HIV-1 that encodes a mutant capsid protein containing a SIVmac239-derived loop between α-helices 4 and 5 (L4/5).
