Background: Helicobacter pylori (HP) affect nearly 50% of the world's population and can colonize the submucosal and mucosal layers of the stomach wall, causing inflammation leading to a thickening of these layers. The study aimed to evaluate the application value of transabdominal ultrasonography combined with elastography in the prediction of HP using HP Fecal Antigen Test as gold standard.

Method: This prospective case-control study was conducted in 174 participants classified into three groups: Group A: Symptomatic patients with thickened stomach antral and evident HP infection on fecal antigen test results, Group B: Symptomatic patients with thickened antral and no evident HP infection on fecal antigen test results, and Group C: control group of asymptomatic individuals with negative HP screening to predict the diagnostic accuracy of B-mode ultrasound and elastography in the prediction of HP pylori.

Background:  Restricting the irradiated volume can reduce X-ray scattering incidents on the image receptor. Proper X-ray collimation during medical imaging reduces a patient's dose while improving image quality. Even though the patient radiation dose due to chest X-ray imaging is low, the 'as low as reasonably achievable' (ALARA) principle should be satisfied, especially for young patients.

BACKGROUND Muscle hernias are an uncommon condition typically found in the extremities; masseter muscle hernia is even rarer. However, it is important for clinicians and radiologists to be aware of this possibility. Intramuscular venous malformation (IMVM) is also uncommon and mostly found in the head, neck, and extremities.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac amyloidosis involves the buildup of amyloid proteins in the heart, causing it to become thick and stiff, which affects its ability to function properly.
  • A 55-year-old woman with a history of uncontrolled hypertension and previous cardiomyopathy was diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis after experiencing worsened chest pain and high blood pressure despite treatment.
  • Diagnostic imaging (echocardiogram and cardiac MRI) showed significant thickening of the heart walls, abnormal patterns of enhancement, and changes in the heart's size, ultimately confirming the condition.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a rare chronic inflammatory disease in which multifocal fibrosis of bile ducts causes eventually narrowing and even blocking, forming multifocal strictures alternated to dilatations. Here, we reported an extremely rare case of PSC associated with ulcerative colitis (UC) and coexisting with cholangiocarcinoma in a 33-year-old male presented with right upper quadrant pain and dark urine. Liver function tests were deranged, and ERCP found a beaded cholangiography appearance due to multifocal bile duct strictures alternating with normal and dilated segments of the common hepatic duct and the intrahepatic bile ducts.

Background: Patient safety is paramount in ultrasound procedures, particularly in obstetric ultrasounds involving both the mother and fetus. The thermal and mechanical indices (TI and MI) serve as crucial indicators of the acoustic output during ultrasound. Clinicians and specialists must know these indices and ensure they are within safe ranges.

Article Synopsis
  • Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is a rare complication in identical twin pregnancies sharing a placenta, characterized by one normal "pump" fetus and one abnormal, typically nonviable, "acardiac" fetus.
  • The acardiac fetus relies on the pump fetus for blood supply, which can lead to heart failure and anomalies in the pump fetus, resulting in high mortality rates.
  • Early detection using ultrasound techniques is crucial for managing TRAP, as interrupting the blood flow to the acardiac twin can help reduce the strain on the pump fetus and improve its chances of survival.

Background: Catheter-associated urinary tract infection is a global problem but it can be prevented with the appropriate implementation of evidence-based guidelines. This study was conducted to assess the level of compliance of healthcare workers with the catheter-associated urinary tract infection prevention guidelines during the insertion of a urinary catheter.

Methods: An observational study using a descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted at Sana'a City hospitals, Yemen.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection with which primarily affects the lungs; however, it can affect any organ in the body. Brain tuberculous infection usually comes via hematogenous spread from a pulmonary focus and rarely via direct spread from ear, cranial vault or spine. It can present in various conditions including the following: tuberculous meningitis (TBM), brain or spinal cord tuberculoma, miliary TB, tuberculous abscess, tuberculous encephalopathy, and even intracranial hemorrhage.

Unlabelled: Effective control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) involves a collaborative effort among various healthcare stakeholders, including healthcare workers, patients, and professionals. Radiographers, as essential members of the healthcare team, play a crucial role in HAI prevention by diligently adhering to standard infection control precautions (SICP) and maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding infection control procedures. The study aimed to assess the knowledge and practice of radiographers concerning infection control in radiology departments in Saudi Arabia.

Background: There is a paucity of information about the clinical features and angiographic findings in young patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), especially in the Arab Peninsula countries.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the proposed risk factors, clinical presentation, and angiographic findings of acute myocardial infarction in young adults.

Methods: This prospective study included young (range, 18 to 45 years) patients who presented with acute MI based on clinical evaluation, laboratory investigation, and electrocardiogram, and they underwent a coronary angiography procedure.

Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one cause of carpal tunnel syndromes (CTS); due to increased intracarpal pressure in the rheumatoid wrist, synovial enlargement, joint erosions, and ligamentous laxity cause the compression of the median nerve (MN). Materials and methods A case-control study was conducted to assess the measurement of median nerve areas in RA using high-frequency ultrasound (US) and to correlate the measurement with the disease duration. Forty patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 40 with non-rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as a control group were referred to the radiology department of Yastabshiron Hospital, Khartoum, Sudan, from June to August 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer (BC) is a widespread health issue among women, and early diagnosis is crucial for effective management.
  • A study analyzed the ultrasound (US) features in 326 female patients diagnosed with BC to evaluate their effectiveness in distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors using statistical methods.
  • The results showed that certain US features, like irregular shape and non-circumscribed margins, were strongly associated with malignancy, highlighting that while US is a sensitive tool for detecting BC, its specificity is lower due to similarities between benign and malignant characteristics.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an epidemic viral disease caused by a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Despite the excessive number of neurological articles that have investigated the effect of COVID-19 on the brain from the neurological point of view, very few studies have investigated the impact of COVID-19 on the cerebral microstructure and function of the brain. The aim of this study was to summarize the results of the existing studies on cerebral microstructural changes in COVID-19 patients, specifically the use of quantitative volumetric analysis, blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess ultrasound practitioners' understanding of ultrasound artefacts in the evaluation of the hepatobiliary system, focusing on radiologists and radiologic technologists in Almadinah Almunawwarah hospitals from November 2020 to April 2021.
  • - Out of 94 participants, it was found that a majority could identify various ultrasound artefacts, but only a certain percentage could accurately associate them with correct diagnoses; significant correlations were observed between experience, qualifications, and knowledge of specific artefacts, particularly mirror artefacts.
  • - The findings suggest that ultrasound practitioners possess a strong capacity to distinguish artefacts from actual medical conditions, indicating a commendable level of knowledge in this area of medical imaging.
