Injuries caused by grill brush bristle ingestion have been documented in the literature, but most existing literature focuses on consumer safety and increasing public awareness of potential injuries. Small bowel perforation is a serious complication and often difficult to diagnose since symptoms are frequently nonspecific and bristle localization can be challenging. We highlight a case where a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis was initially made by computerized tomography (CT) imaging but was later determined to be small bowel perforation with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Soil survey is indispensable for land-use planning in any agro-ecosystem, particularly in coastal ecosystems because they often face several environmental problems such as flooding and water pollution, leading to soil degradation. The data from twelve representative soil profiles on six harrats (two profiles from each Harrat) within the Arabian Shield are presented, including full morphological descriptions made during the field the soil survey. A number of selected physicochemical and mineralogical analyses were also conducted in the laboratory and the data were interpreted to examine the possibility of the presence of andic/vitric soil properties in the studied soils, and thus the existence of Andisols in the harrats soils. The existence of andic/vitric properties in soils is not typical of regions characterized by aridic and hyperthermic soil moisture and temperature regimes, respectively, and is probably due to the influence of paleoclimatic conditions.

Objective: To investigate the tooth whitening effects of various concentrations of carbamide peroxide (CP) gels and 6% hydrogen peroxide (HP) whitening strips used on an intrinsic, in vitro stain model in a simulated home-applied bleaching protocol.

Method: Extracted third molars were sectioned and stained to Vita shade C4 using a standardized tea solution. Stained specimens were then bleached with 10, 15, 20, 22, and 30% CP gels applied in custom-made trays for 8-hour sessions for 14 days.

The causes of tooth discoloration are varied and complex but are usually classified as being either intrinsic, extrinsic or internalized in nature. Dietary chromogens and other external elements deposit on the tooth surface or within the pellicle layer either directly or indirectly to form extrinsic discoloration. Stains within the dentine or intrinsic discoloration often results from systemic or pulpal origin, while internalized stains are the result of extrinsic stains entering the dentine via tooth defects such as cracks on the tooth surface.
