Acremonium species are saprophytic molds widely distributed in nature, existing in soil and decaying vegetation. Penetrating wounds, intravascular catheters and immunosuppression are risk factors for invasive infections of Acremonium. The fungus can also cause cutaneous infections and mycetoma in the immunocompetent; such infections occur in extremities open to trauma.

The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of Compritol HD5 ATO and Compritol 888 ATO on this interaction in comparison with commercial KTZ tablets. The second aim was to prepare lipid granules of KTZ that could be an alternative to the commercial formulation.

The rapid identification of this yeast is mostly based on the production of germ tube in human or animal serum. This study describes the use of 12 different liquid media for germ tube production at 2, 2.

These strains were identified as Candida glabrata in 20 (31.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of onychomycosis in primary school children and to make comparison between different socioeconomic status in the rural and urban areas of the city. Hand and foot nails of 23235 children aged 7-14 were examined.

Methods: Thirty-eight GERD patients with a mean age of 6 1/2 years and 42 healthy children of the same age and gender and social background comprised the study group. All subjects answered a detailed frequency questionnaire related to acidic drinks, foods, and sugar consumption and participated in a clinical dental examination.
Candida septicaemia with multidrug resistance is an uncommon event in preterm neonates. We present an extremely low birth weight infant (gestational age of 27 weeks, birth weight of 980 g) who developed congenital Candida parapsilosis septicaemia. Because the fungus was resistant both to amphotericin B and fluconazole, caspofungin was chosen for therapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Fungal sepsis is becoming more frequent in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and has a high mortality rate due to the invasive nature of the disease and to the insufficiency of low doses and high incidence of renal problems with effective doses of amphotericin B. New generation lipid formulated amphotericin B preparations may be more efficient because they are less toxic to be applied in target doses. However, there is limited experience in neonates and preterm infants.

In this study, the existence of Cryptococcus neoformans in eucalyptus trees in the South Aegean and Mediterranean Regions of Anatolia, Turkey, was screened between March 1998 and September 2002. Only one strain of Cryptococcus neoformans var.

The bioadhesive vaginal tablets delivery of KTZ was prepared by direct compression of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or polyvinylpyrrolidone or hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC-E(50)). Dissolution studies of bioadhesive tablets and commercial ovules were carried out with a new basket method (horizontal rotating basket).

Disseminated infection has been described in patients with immunodeficiency, but has previously been reported in only one neonate. A preterm infant with Acremonium strictum fungaemia is reported here.

Fourteen different rpoB alleles, three of which had not been reported before, were found. A reverse hybridization-based line probe assay (the Inno-LiPA Rif.
