Article Synopsis
  • The paper evaluates the Mode II interfacial fracture toughness and shear strength of fiber/PLLA and fiber/epoxy composites using a double shear stress method with a 3 fibers model.
  • Alkali treatment enhances fiber surface roughness, improving the composites' interfacial properties and leading to higher toughness and shear strength for fiber/epoxy compared to fiber/PLLA.
  • Factors like matrix length, fiber spacing, fiber diameter, and bonding area impact interfacial fracture characteristics, with longer treatment durations further increasing these properties.

Natural fiber composites have been widely used for various applications such as automotive components, aircraft components and sports equipment. Among the natural fibers have gained considerable attention to replace synthetic fibers due to their unique nature. The untreated and alkali-treated fibers treated in different durations were dried under the sun for 4 h prior to the fabrication of fiber reinforced epoxy composites.
