Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors are used in the acute coronary syndromes and percutaneous coronary intervention as antiplatelet agents. However, these agents induce thrombocytopenia in approximately 1% to 5% of patients, and may lead to bleeding complications. Abciximab is associated with higher incidence of thrombocytopenia than eptifibatide and tirofiban.

It is very important to decrease pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in order to prevent progression to right heart failure. We showed an acute improvement of PAP by non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) treatment in patients with hypercapnic respiratory failure. In 26 patients with COPD (18 males and 8 females), physical examination, Doppler echocardiographic evaluation and arterial blood gases analysis were performed on admission and at discharge.

Spontaneous coronary dissections (SCAD) can be asymptomatic or can manifest itself as any of the clinical spectrum of the ischemic heart disease. In this report, we present a 65 year old man presented with myocardial infarction in whom coronary angiography a nonocclusive SCAD was noticed in addition to a very late stent thrombosis and make a brief overview of the treatment for SCAD.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate serum adiponectin levels in relation to the NYHA functional capacity class in patients with heart failure (HF).

Study Design: The study included 49 patients (40 males, 9 females; mean age 63 years) with HF, whose functional capacity was NYHA class II to IV. Echocardiographic examination was performed and serum adiponectin levels were measured.

Objective: Cheyne Stokes respiration (CSR) is frequently seen in the patients with heart failure (HF) and it increases mortality. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate acute effects of adaptive servo ventilation (ASV) on CSR and neurohormones in the patients with HF.

Methods: Nineteen males and 1 female patients with HF in the functional capacity of NYHA II-III were included into the study prospectively.

Aims: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is a key enzyme in the production of angiotensin II, thus may participate in the modulation of cardiac growth. The aim of our study is to analyze the ACE gene I/D polymorphisms in patients with insulin resistance (IR) and to evaluate its relationship to left ventricular mass and functions.

Methods: Eighteen subjects (13 female and 5 male, mean age 39.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) has the potential to cause heart failure. We aimed to determine the effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on left ventricular structure and myocardial performance index (MPI) in severe OSA patients.

Methods: Sixty-seven subjects without any cardiac or pulmonary disease had overnight polysomnography and echocardiography.

Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) might cause right ventricular dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension. We aimed to determine the effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on right ventricular myocardial performance index (MPI) in OSA patients without hypertension.

Methods: 49 subjects without hypertension, diabetes mellitus, any cardiac and pulmonary disease had overnight polysomnography and echocardiography.

Objective: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a condition, which is recognized as raising the risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of our study is to estimate the left ventricular functions by atrioventricular plane displacement (AVPD), myocardial performance index (MPI) and conventional methods in patients with MS who were diagnosed according to NCEP (ATP III) criteria.

Methods: Fifty-three female patients with MS (mean age 53.
