Muscle-invasive urothelial cell carcinoma of the human bladder: multidirectional differentiation and ability to metastasize.

Few published studies have addressed the correlation between multidirectional differentiation in muscle-invasive bladder cancer and its ability to metastasize. We demonstrated that histologic differentiation within a single tumor affects lymph node metastasis. We examined cystectomy specimens from 93 bladder tumors and 1085 lymph nodes.

Morphologic changes in the canine urinary tract after ureteral reconstruction with the tunica albuginea (experimental study).

Objectives: The problem of ureteral reconstruction has not been fully solved, despite dramatic developments in surgical methods. Many attempts to repair a ureteral damage with autologous or homologous organ grafts, or with organic substitutes have not really been satisfactory. Also, attempts to use alloplastic and heteroplastic prostheses made of synthetic materials have been equally disappointing.

Urine cytology in patients with urinary tract calculosis.

Influence of quercetin on B16 melanotic melanoma growth in C57BL/6 mice and on activity of some acid hydrolases in melanoma tissue.

[Osteochondroma of the larynx].

Benign cartilaginous tumours of the larynx and trachea are rare. The most common is chondroma, and only 6 cases of osteochondroma of the larynx have been reported in the world literature. We present a case of 74 year's old woman with osteochondroma of the right arytenoid cartilage.

Immunogold labelling of PCNA and Ki-67 antigen at the ultrastructural level in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and its correlation with lymph node metastasis and histological grade.

Streptavidin-gold was used for the immunolocalization of PCNA and Ki-67 antigen at the ultrastructural level with a postembedding technique in biopsies of 15 patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Positive immunoelectron staining was obtained in 9 cases for PCNA (60%) and in 8 cases for Ki-67 (53%). PCNA was predominantly found in heterochromatin of the nucleus of laryngeal carcinoma cells in a granular pattern.

Endometriosis of the urinary bladder.

Although every seventh or eighth case of endometriosis is found to have urinary involvement, this type of endometriosis is still rarely recognized. The symptoms are not specific and are frequently suggestive of a neoplastic process. On the basis of our two cases of histopathologically two types of endometriosis as well as literature review the practical significance of endometriosis in urology is described.

The influence of rutin on the weight, metastasis and melanin content of B16 melanotic melanoma in C57BL/6 mice.

The influence of rutin on the growth rate and tumor weight of B16 melanoma as well as melanin content and ultrastructure of melanoma cells and metastasis formation was studied in mice. All mice were injected s.c.

Immuno-ultrastructural localization of p53 protein in patients with laryngeal carcinoma.

Protein p53 was localized ultrastructurally with 5 nm gold-streptavidin particles in cells of laryngeal carcinoma embedded in Epon 815. Postembedding technique to study p53 protein was used. Protein p53 was found predominantly in nucleus of the cells but the label was also observed in cytoplasm of the cells.

[Pulmonary hypertension during the course of liver cirrhosis--presentation of two cases].

Two patients with liver cirrhosis and clinical and autopsy features of pulmonary hypertension are presented. Others than liver's pathology secondary causes of hypertension in pulmonary circulation were not found. In both patients pulmonary hypertension had an influence on clinical course of basic disease.

[Diagnostic value of cytologic examination of urine sediment in patients with non-neoplastic diseases].

The results are presented of urine sediment cytological examination of all patients treated in the Department of Urology for non-neoplastic diseases from March 01, 1989 to October 01, 1991. Out of the total number of 936 newly admitted patients in 88 cases the urine cytological examination demonstrated dysplastic cells which accounted for 9.4%, while in 11 cases cells suspected of malignancy were found which accounted for 1.

[Pneumocystis pneumonia in light of personal observations].

During a period of 10 months, 87 children with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia accompanied transient cellular immunity disorders and with normal humoral immunity were observed. It is suggested that change the invasiveness of the parasite has changed. The necessity of taking into consideration a pneumocystis etiology in diagnosis of respiratory tract diseases among children is pointed out.

Diagnostic value of urine cytology and urine carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level in the distinction between bladder cancer and urinary tract infection.

In the retrospective investigation we estimated the CEA levels in urine and urine cytology in 293 patients with urinary bladder cancer (group I) and in 129 patients with urinary tract infection (group II). An increased CEA level was found in 212 cases of bladder cancer and in 109 cases of urinary infection. Neoplastic cells in urine sediment were identified in 254 cases in the first group, while in the second, multiple inflammatory cells and pyuria were diagnosed in 55 and 56 cases, respectively.

[Levels of carcinoembryonic antigen in blood serum and in urine in employees who smoke at the "Pasamon" Industrial Works in Bygdoszcz].

CEA levels in serum and urine determined in healthy persons who were heavy smokers. We examined 215 workers of the "PASAMON" Industrial Works (186 women and 29 men). The level of CEA in serum was elevated in 19% of healthy workers smoking 10 or more cigarettes daily.

[Evaluation of renal function based on cytologic examination of urine sediments in industrial workers employed in a Bydgosz conveyer belt plant "Pasamon" ].

215 healthy workers, aged 19-61, of Bydgoszcz industrial plant were examined. In some patients urine sediments contained pathological ingredients, which could be an early symptom of a urinary tract disease. No traits of neoplastic processes were found.

[Levels of carcinoembryonic antigen and alpha fetoproteins in urine of of workers at the Bydgoszcz industrial works "Pasamon"].

A group of 215 healthy workers of the Bydgoszcz Industrial Works "Pasamon", aged 19-61 years, was examined. Normal values of CEA and AFP in urine were determined using the RIA method. They were 0-42 ng/ml and 0-9 UI/ml, respectively.

[Diagnosis of breast pathology in men].

Among pathological states of the breast in men the most frequently encountered is gynecomastia caused by glandular hypertrophy. Male breast carcinoma is an unfrequent condition. These and other diseases differential diagnosis with application of mammography is presented.

Carcinoembryonic antigen, alphafetoprotein and alpha and beta subunits of human chorionic gonadotropin in plasma of children with acute leukaemia.

The plasma carcinoembryonic antigen, alpha-fetoprotein and the alpha and beta subunits of human chorionic gonadotropin levels were measured by radioimmunoassay in 44 children with acute leukaemia. These markers were determined repeatedly every 3 months at different stages of the disease (at onset, in complete remission, during bone marrow and extramedullary relapse). Elevated CEA levels were present in 64% of children at the onset of acute leukaemia and during bone marrow relapse.

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alphafetoprotein (AFP) alpha and beta subunits of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in cerebrospinal fluid of children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma levels of CEA, AFP, alpha and beta hCG were determined by radioimmunoassay in 19 children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). CSF in 15 patients at the onset of ALL was examined in the first week after diagnosis and subsequently every two months. In 4 other children in second complete remission of ALL, CSF was examined every two months as well.

Concentration of tumour markers CEA, AFP, alpha and beta subunits of hCG in cerebrospinal fluid in children with inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system.

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alphafetoprotein (AFP) and alpha-beta subunits of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) were determined by radio-immunoassay in CSF of 83 children presenting some central nervous disease and compared to the corresponding values obtained in 88 children without neuroinfection. CEA and alpha hCG were absent in the CSF of children without neuroinfection. CEA and alpha hCG levels in CSF higher than 0.
