Effect of Approach Based Lumbar Interbody Fusion on Sagittal Spinopelvic Parameters and Functional Outcomes: Comparison between Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLIF) and Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF).

Purpose: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) and oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) are the most commonly conducted operations for interbody fusions. In addition to fusion, the restoration of proper spinal alignment has become crucial for achieving favorable functional outcomes. There is a lack of agreement on which lumbar interbody fusion technique provides the most effective correction for sagittal spinopelvic parameters (SSPs).

A Short Course of Preoperative Denosumab Injection Followed by Surgery in High-Risk Giant Cell Tumors of the Extremities: A Retrospective Study.

Despite early promising results with denosumab treatment in giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB), recent studies have raised concerns about a high local recurrence rate following preoperative denosumab administration and joint preservation surgery. This retrospective study evaluated data from 25 high-risk GCT patients (Campanacci grade II or III with features like soft tissue extension, pathological fracture, minimal periarticular or subarticular bone) treated with five doses of neoadjuvant denosumab injection followed by either curettage and cementing ( = 13) or joint reconstruction with fibular graft/endoprosthesis ( = 12) between 2014 and 2019. With an average follow-up of 40 months, the study found only one patient of local recurrence.

Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Distal Ulna in an Elderly Lady.

Introduction: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare, benign, cystic, hemorrhagic expansile osteolytic lesion of unknown etiology resembling multiple intraosseous blood-filled spaces mostly seen in the first two decades of life. It accounts for <1% of all bone tumors and the usual sites are the metaphyses of the proximal and distal femur, proximal tibia, and posterior elements of the spine. Affection of other sites is unusual.

Intra-articular anterior inferior iliac spine avulsion with hip instability: A retrospective study.

Background: Intraarticular anteroinferior iliac spine (AIIS) avulsion fractures combined with hip dislocation are infrequently reported in medical literature. This study aims to present the outcomes of surgical treatment for this rare type of injury.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed six cases of AIIS avulsion fracture with hip dislocation treated surgically.

LBP can arise from various causes, with stiffness in the paraspinal muscles being a notable contributor. The administration of Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) has been found to alleviate back pain by relaxing these stiff muscles.

Association between nutritional scores and multilevel vertebral involvement in tubercular spine: a retrospective cohort study.

Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of nutritional scores comprising the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score and the Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), in prediction of multilevel vertebral involvement (> 2 vertebra) in Spinal Tuberculosis (STB).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 39 STB patients was conducted to assess nutritional indices (CONUT and PNI) and the numbers of vertebral affection. Spearman's correlation was used to examine the association between these variables.

Combined articular and ligament reconstructions in neglected fracture-dislocation of the knee.

Background: The management of neglected traumatic knee dislocations is challenging and is commonly associated with suboptimal outcomes. In this article we present two cases of neglected knee dislocations in two young trauma victims who presented late due to restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Two young patients presented at our center with neglected knee fracture-dislocations after eight weeks and six months of trauma.

Reconstruction of the extensor mechanism using polypropylene mesh in a displaced pathological fracture of the patella affected by giant cell tumour.

A man in his 30s came to our clinic with a year-long history of progressive pain and swelling in his knee. Diagnostic imaging revealed a displaced patellar fracture with an osteolytic, septated lesion and thinned expanded cortex in both fracture fragments. A core needle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of giant cell tumour.

Knee Arthrodesis Using Dual-Plate Construct is Following Failed Distal Femur Megaprosthesis-A Case Report.

Introduction: Knee arthrodesis following failed total knee arthroplasty is a viable limb salvage option, and this procedure is reserved for failed two-stage revision surgery in severe comorbid patients with irreparable extensor mechanism disruption, severe instability, and extensive soft tissue loss. Knee arthrodesis using a dual-plate construct has been scarcely reported. We report a case of knee arthrodesis using a dual-plate construct in a male in his 20s who presented to us with a broken distal femur megaprosthesis.

Correlation between Vertebral Marrow Fat Fraction in MRI Using DIXON Technique and BMD in DXA in Patients of Suspected Osteoporosis.

 Osteoporosis is a common metabolic bone disease accounting for low back pain (LBP). It is diagnosed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) is a novel retroperitoneal approach that allows placement of a large interbody cage which provides an indirect neural decompression, and screws can be placed minimal invasively or through the Wiltse OLIF (W-OLIF) approach. We aim to find out the short-term efficacy of W-OLIF to O-TLIF in terms of radiological and clinical outcomes in patients of lumbar degenerative diseases.

Concurrent replacement of four major joints in a woman with advanced rheumatoid arthritis.

We report a case of a woman in her mid-40s with advanced rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with bilateral hip and knee joint involvement, who underwent a one-stage quadruple joint arthroplasty during a single session of anaesthesia. Chronic RA had severely incapacitated her, necessitating this uncommon surgical intervention. The surgical approach involved sequential bilateral total hip and knee replacements, which were completed within 180 min with a cumulative blood loss of 950 mL.

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with ipsilateral mid-thigh amputation is surgically challenging. We report a case of same setting THA and ipsilateral above-knee amputation in a male patient. The patient had 8 months old neglected neck femur fracture and ipsilateral femur shaft fracture with 14 cm bone loss.

A novel technique of reconstruction of the distal tibia using allograft after resection of giant cell tumor: A case report with literature review.
