Background: Well-defined pre-cancerous stages help early detection of uterine cervical cancer by Pap smear or human papillomavirus (HPV) analysis. HPV induces atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) which can progress to higher grade lesions depending on persistence of infection with High-risk human papillomavirus (HrHPV). The HrHPV prevalence and persistence after 18-36 months, associated risk factors for persistence among women with ASCUS, and the effect of persisting HrHPV in the cytological progression upto a period of seven years are analyzed.

The objective of the study was to detect and classify cancerous cells in sputum by examining their expression of minichromosome maintenance proteins (MCM2 and MCM7). In addition, the study attempted to evaluate these proteins' potential as biomarkers of lung cancer lesions and their relationships with clinicopathological characteristics.

Aim: This study sought to evaluate the links between cyclin D1 expression, clinicopathological characteristics, and 2-year survival rates in lung cancer.
There is a plethora of information embedded in a tissue section that the conventional IHC understands only partially. Predictive biomarkers for precision immuno-oncology heavily dependent on the spatial arrangement of cells and the co-expression patterns in the tissue sections. Here we have explored the versatility of indirect multiplex immunofluorescence (mIF) and indirect multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) for the labeling of breast cancer prognostic markers in routinely processed, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues at high resolution.

However, whether 27-HC metabolite modulates the epigenetic signatures in breast cancer and its progression remains unclear. The current study, reports that 27-HC represses the expression of euchromatic histone lysine methyltransferase G9a, further reducing di-methylation at H3K9 in a subset of genes.

Herein, a straightforward spectroscopy-driven histopathologic approach has emerged as a paradigm of Raman-label (RL) nanoparticle probes for multiplex recognition of pertinent biomarkers in heterogeneous breast cancer. The nanoprobes are constructed by sequential incorporation of signature RL and target specific antibodies on gold nanoparticles, which are coined as Raman-Label surface enhanced Raman scattering (RL-SERS)-nanotags to evaluate simultaneous recognition of clinically relevant breast cancer biomarkers i.

Thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) and p63 were demonstrated as useful markers for histologic typing of lung cancer. Mutation and overexpression of EGFR has been reported in a subset of non-small cell lung cancers.

Cervical cancer is one such type that can be monitored for a sufficiently long period toward invasive cancer phenotype. Herein, we report a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanotag (SERS-tag) for the simultaneous detection of p16/K-i67, a dual biomarker persisting in the progression of squamous cell carcinoma of human cervix.

In vitro results revealed that E2 could stimulate the expression and phosphorylation of ezrin in a time and dose dependent manner. Our data clearly showed that E2 enhanced the migration and invasion of cells, which was reversed by the transfection of cells with ezrin specific siRNA.

Validation of some of the markers in sputum for prognosis prediction will be highly useful for selective therapy.
Aims: This study was aimed to evaluate a reliable panel of immunocytochemical markers for their significance to predict survival.
Comprehensive profiling of multiple protein targets plays a critical role in deeper understanding of specific disease conditions associated with high heterogeneity and complexity. Herein, we present the design and fabrication of smart programmable nanoarchitectures, which could integrate clinically relevant diagnostic modalities for the multiplexed detection of most prevalent panel of disease biomarkers present in lung cancer. The multiplex nanoprobes were prepared by attaching dual-functional Raman-active fluorogens onto spherical gold nanoparticles through a peptide linker, Phe-Lys-Cys (FKC), which is engineered with a cathepsin B (cathB) enzyme cleavage site.

Background: To identify and characterize malignant and premalignant cells in sputum and matched tissue samples with reference to expression of minichromosome maintenance proteins (MCM2, MCM5) and cell division cycle protein 6 (CDC 6) and to assess their potential as biomarkers of premalignant and malignant lesions of the lung and associations with clinicopathological features. Methods: Expression of MCM2, MCM5 and 6 proteins in sputum samples and corresponding tissues was assessed by immunocytochemistry, and correlated with histological findings. Results: For characterization of malignant, metaplastic or dysplastic cells, CDC6 protein had the highest sensitivity of 87.

This paper presents an automated algorithm for robustly detecting and segmenting free-lying cell nuclei in bright-field microscope images of Pap smears. This is an essential initial step in the development of an automated screening system for cervical cancer based on malignancy associated change (MAC) analysis. The proposed segmentation algorithm makes use of gray-scale annular closings to identify free-lying nuclei-like objects together with marker-based watershed segmentation to accurately delineate the nuclear boundaries.
