PBL implementation of Kathmandu University Curriculum - Is It Quo Vadis?

The history of the implementation of PBL which started in 1978 is long and there have been many ups and downs in the process of getting it to work. Of course there are many reasons for this, starting with the fact that basically it is a method of learning of medicine that is being tried out in various parts of the world. What is envisaged by KU is a hybrid form of the process to be implemented for the MBBS course that KUSMS conducts at its campus at Chaukot, Kavre and at its seven affiliated medical colleges.

Urothelial tumours of the urinary bladder: a histopathological study of cystoscopic biopsies.

Introduction: Bladder tumours constitute one of the most common urological conditions. Urothelial (transitional cell) carcinoma accounts for 90% of all primary tumours of the bladder. These tumours are an important cause of morbidity and mortality.

It is a glomus tumor! Not at all a paronychia.

We report an interesting case of chronic obscure pain over the toe tip. This earlier was misdiagnosed as chronic paronychia and operated twice. Obvious clinical appearance and high index of suspicion rendered it a glomus tumor on histopathology.

The microbiological and clinical characteristics of invasive salmonella in gallbladders from cholecystectomy patients in kathmandu, Nepal.

Gallbladder carriage of invasive Salmonella is considered fundamental in sustaining typhoid fever transmission. Bile and tissue was obtained from 1,377 individuals undergoing cholecystectomy in Kathmandu to investigate the prevalence, characteristics and relevance of invasive Salmonella in the gallbladder in an endemic area. Twenty percent of bile samples contained a Gram-negative organism, with Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi A isolated from 24 and 22 individuals, respectively.
