Tuberculous osteomyelitis is rare and usually involves the vertebrae but is seldom found in the foot. The uncommon site and ability to mimic other disorders clinically and radiographically leads to diagnostic and therapeutic delays. We report a case of a 40-year-old man who initially presented to his podiatrist with intermittent pain and swelling of his right ankle and foot that lasted for a year.

A significant proportion of imported malaria occurs in foreign born immigrants visiting their native countries and do not take prophylaxis for malaria mostly due to a misconception of being immune to malaria. The purpose of this study is to review epidemiology, clinical presentation, rate of prophylaxis and delineate the rate of severe malaria in a community hospital with largely immigrant population.

In the present work a coating containing nanosized titania particles having anatase structure was developed on titanium substrate by thermal decomposition of titanium tetrachloride in isopropanol. A modified titania-silica mixed oxide coating was developed by incorporating the required amount of silica in the coating system.

Supersaturation of calcium and phosphate in the bath solution and activation of the metal substrate is essential for effective biomimetic growth of apatite on orthopedic implants. In this work, bioactivation of titanium surface was achieved by electrodeposition of a thin layer of calcium phosphate followed by an alkaline treatment to obtain pure hydroxyapatite crystals. The influence of calcium gluconate in the electrolyte solution was evaluated and optimized.
